OK..calling all clever b*gg*#s....I need a step by step tutorial of how to make a remote connection to another PC accross the internet....for both server and client machines...any links, help?

What operating system are you using ????

if you are using windows 2000 it sets the options up to tunnel accross the internet for the connection and it also depends on what type of setup u have

ie if you have a non Server network (peer to peer) then its just a matter of seting up connections allowed to access you machine and where they are allowed to connect from.

SUB 7... tell me if im wrong but thats a Trojen horse virus and if you set it up you will be accessed by anyone who has the server client ??? and port scanning tech.

whats your network setup if you have one are u using NT or windows 2000 or just plain old ME/98 etc then i can try and give a better advice

Hi Mickie....sorry for the delay in replying...
Right my friend, who wants to be the server, runs XP home, yes the PC is part of a small homenetwork (4 comps)and his net connection is via ADSL, using a frog.
At home I run XP pro, again, small network (3 comps),using dial-up to net but what we really wanted it for was for me to connect to him when I'm at work, to download stuff to his machine and burn it to disk. At work I have win2k, but no admin privilges.
We did a lot of playing around, by trying to connect via ftp & http to his IP addy(on net), but it wouldn't let me in. What we need is directions what to set on his machine really. I think I can get my end more or less right, I can establish a conection, but then it says 'Connection Refused', so I pressume it's a setting on his machine.....can't transfer files via MSN either....
Any help would be appreciated, thanx for the response so far.

First of all he can allow incomming connections via XP (you more than likely have already done this) theres a setting that allows this in the network connections wizard

also what i seem to think is going on is that he has a Firewall running ???? if so see if you can connect to his machine from your work PC with the firewall not running.

you need to set up on his machine the settings for your connection... also im a bit drunk with all this christmas stuff going on so if i sound way of i will look again and have more of a go at your problem when my hangover fades lmao

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL OF YA

There is a better way.........radmin. www.radmin.com

Its a full remote access bit of s\ware that has 128-bit encrytion built in so no need for tunelling. If u decide to keep using it I have a crack....if u need it get in touch

theres been many instances where with win 2k and xp you need to add yourself as an user in order to access the hosts machine. ie if you arent an user you cant access the machine remotely. Try adding yourselves as admins to each others xp machines and give it another try
