Police are examining CCTV pictures from a top London hotel where a group of Premiership footballers are accused of gang-raping a teenager.
The 17-year-old girl claims she consented to sex with one player, but was then attacked by others.
She is said to have alleged that up to eight players were present during the attack at the Grosvenor House Hotel in the West End.
None of them has been named by police, but rumours about their identities are flooding the internet.
One of the accused players, said to be a household name, is understood to have denied even having been at the hotel.
The others are also believed to be adamant they did nothing wrong.
Forensic teams from Scotland Yard have been examining rooms at the hotel for DNA evidence.
The alleged victim said the attack happened in the early hours after the players had been on a night out.
She went to a central London police station to report her allegations at the weekend. She has spoken to detectives from Scotland Yard's specialist Operation Sapphire unit, which deals with sex crime.
The teenager has undergone a medical examination and had counselling.
She is expected to give a fuller statement to police later, after which the players may be interviewed within weeks.
No players or clubs have been named by the police in connection with the allegation.
None of the Premiership clubs involved or agents for the accused players have been prepared to comment.
