I'm a hypnotherapist in my spare time but I have to agree will power is the key to it. You can't give up smoking for someone else, you have to do it for yourself because you want to. I used to smoke and I gave up quite easily - I just stopped and even though I used to play pool at the time in a room with a bunch of mates who did smoke, once I said no to a fag a couple of times, they stopped asking. Trouble is, the impression that it is a difficult thing to do is reinforced by all the advertising for patches and gums so people drop off the wagon and think 'well, I gave it a good shot but it is really difficult.............' If we didn't reinforce how difficult it is and told people it was easy they would think 'I would love a fag but everyone else says giving up is easy so I have to stick with it..........' Mindset is so important, if you believe something is easy it will be easier than that same thing if you go into it thinking how difficult it is. The mind cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imagined - that is why dreams are so vivid. If you believe something is difficult, you have convinced your brain before you start.
Work out why you want to stop, calculate how much you are going to save by stopping, save that money and plan how you will spend your saved money - give yourself a treat. That will give you some motivation to succeed. Hypnotherapy, to be honest, by the time you have decided to give up, do something about it and paid to see the hypnotherapist (provided you have confidence in him/her), almost anything he /she did would work as you are 90% of the way there anyway. Trust me, I'm a hypnotherapist! Good luck, keep us posted. If you need some support send me a pm and I will try to help.
