proxy settings etc ???

Which is the best proxy for me to use according to this website h**p://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/trancache.html

My ISP is NTL and I have broadband via cable modem and ethernet connection, I live in the glasgow area and the closest server I can see to my home is the renfrew one, so would that be the one I use, i notice it has a few different options, 1 to 9 i think ?
Or am I better just to leave my settings so that iam not using a proxy, I know that it has its pro's and con's but iam not sure if its worth the bother messing with it ???
Maybe someone with good knowledge could tell me please....
