pace 4001n always updating /faulty

hi
i bought a pace 4100n
when i opened it i noticed that talkback had been cut.
i tried starting the box but it went straight to pace>tune>nit then started updating.
after updating it went to ldpt then eras then to a screen which i could not read.............after this the box froze with the top right hand led on.
i left for 20 mins then the led light went to the middle and tried to boot then went to pace>pat>pnt then tried to upgrade again.
the box will not let me into eng menu and there is no display on the tv

anyone help

atmels needs to be reflowed has a dry joint on one of the legs it sounds like
