Neighbours will make its debut on national American television in April on the Oxygen cable channel.

The channel, co-founded by Oprah Winfrey along with Geraldine Laybourne, Marcy Carsey, Tom Werner and Caryn Mandabach, has bought sixty-five episodes beginning with the arrival of the Scully family. That storyline aired in the UK four years ago.

Neighbours will air on the channel daily from Monday, 19 April between 1pm and 2pm, with two episodes airing back-to-back.

Oxygen's president of programming, Debby Beece, said: "For years Neighbours has captured the hearts of young audiences around the world. Oxygen is pleased to bring the series’ compelling stories to our viewers. Now they, too, can join in on the good, the bad and the endlessly entertaining lives of our Aussie neighbours on Ramsay Street."

FremantleMedia, parent company of Neighbours producer Grundy, says that the soap averages 120m daily worldwide viewers - it airs on BBC One in the UK, Network Ten in Australia, and fifty-three other countries.

Lisa Honig, VP Sales, US and Canada for Fremantle International Distribution said: "We are thrilled to have secured this deal with Oxygen which marks another exciting chapter in Neighbours’ phenomenal international success story. Oxygen has scheduled Neighbours in an excellent slot, following lead-in show Roseanne - one of the networks’ top rated programmes.”
