Mosquitoes

there is a skin cream by Avon which apparently is great, they hate it! I can't just remember what it's called

Please tell me you are talking about mother-in-laws?

The Avon stuff skin so soft contains DET. Det is found in most of the major insect repellents. Apparently the smell of our breathe and our sweat attract midge's mozzies, also when you swat a midge thats on you, it releases stuff that attracts more. I just get bit regardless of what I use, my brother says its cos I smell like shite.

Avon skin so soft contains no "DEET" at all but it is fairly effective in keeping the midges at bay, slabber it all over yourself. I wouldnt recomend it for highly infested areas though ;)
http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/ sells 100ml Bottles of DEET 100+ which can be effective for upto 10 hours in Highly infested areas.
I'm just back from a weekend fishing at Loch Awe and we compared Avon Skin so soft Vs DEET, The DEET wins hands down although its not 100% protection.

One of the lads was on fire, he had about 10 Rainbows and 4 or 5 cracking perch. Another caught 5 or 6, the pick of the bunch being an 8lb Rainbow, I got 2 and anothe mate got feck Awe ;)

£20 for a 3 day permit which is great value for money.

nice one m8 sounds like a good time had by all then, need to get myself back out fishing hoping to get up to loch arkaig in a couple of weeks time.

...Get some Tiger Balm, it will stop the itching instantly...

It used to contain DEET, but your spot on, it doesn't anymore.
