hello help is required i have a 4 yaer old pc with only 32 memory
i have purchasded 128 dimms
however when i have installed it i only hqave 65.odd mem

on looking i have 4 slots for sim mem 2 of these are being used and 1 for dimm now with a 128 mem card in

what i need to know is does one bugger the other ?

if i take out the sim will the dim work at 128 ?

or can i only use sim to upgrade

wish i had spare grand to buy a new one any kind beefactor would like to give a total stranger a grand? please let me know
42 is thge answer

if you have mixed RAM slots you will probably find that you can't use slots 1 and 2 SIMM slots AND your DIMM slot - try moving the SIMMS to slots 3 and 4 then all your RAM should work, hopefully

Sim Memory is kak, just chuck it out, having sim & dimm ram will actually slow your PC down cos the sim ram will be holding the dim ram back

most of the old boards wont let you mix differnt types of memmory.if poss stick with the sd ram over the sims .they are faster and cheaper to use.
I`ve only come across 3or4 m/boards that let you mix but they all recomend you dont and none of them say it will work with no probs.
check in the manuel for the m/board and see what they say about the slots and read carefull how they word it.

many thanks for all your advice heres latest position

i have removed all sim and replaced with a supposedly 128 dimm

however at boot up the computer only states
32,768 mem

is it possible the computer will only allow 32 meg to be used or has the guy at the "instores" shop where i purchased ram given me a dud ? he seemed to have a job lot of 128@s ?

thanks for your help

42 used to be the answer

James....sounds very much like you've got that right, alot of older mobo's will only see a max of 32mB in any one slot

save up for a new mobo I think...
