Manchester United thread

The United Way...........

They're already making excuses for it over on ragcafe. God forbid if it was any other club though!

That doesn't sit well with me, I would like to hear the reasoning behind it.

The story is crap, here is an explanation from redcafe.

The term 'plaque' is not really accurate. In the director's box there are a number of seats with small name plaques on the underside. Since the leather seating went in there they had names on those seats. Some say 'Sir Alex Ferguson', 'Sir Bobby Charlton', others say 'Edwards Family', others said 'Busby Family'. The seats themselves can't be more than 10 years old, and the name plaque certainly hasn't been there for 50.

Sadly, last year both of Sir Matt's children died, but before then they could give those allocated seats out to family members if they were not going themselves. Now that they've died, and the grandchildren outnumber the amount of seats in the director's box and there's nobody to allocate them fairly, so United have given the family a number of season tickets instead, as they say in the article. It's just crap sensationalist journalism from the MEN again.

Edit: Here's a photo of the kind of seat name plate this 'plaque' actually is that the article refers to (no idea who the bloke is, by the way):

Was just about to post the same, but you were quick enough to try stick the knife in in your first post on this subject, need to do your homework first in future

Wouldn't have suprised me anyway if it was true considering United have almost 60 years experience in the art of evicting people.

Wasn't it Busby that had the families removed from their homes after Munich?

Manchester United & Munich '58 - Forgetting the Past?

- - - Updated - - -

It's well documented.
Roger Byrne's family continued to live in their club house at a peppercorn rent but the badly injured Johnny Berry and Jackie Blanchflower (neither of whom played again) were evicted from club houses and Berry was fired by letter. Albert Scanlon was badly affected by the disaster and played on for a while before being transferred to Newcastle. Busby told him to get in touch if he ever fell on hard times but when he did and tried to speak to him Busby blanked him. Ray Wood's wife also complained about the bad treatment he received post-Munich.

But it needs to be put in context if you are going to start quoting sources

Yet the author's indignant partisanship has a number of drawbacks. Imposing modern values on the late Fifties, Connor fails to recognise that there was nothing unique about the harsh way that the Munich survivors were treated. This was a time of austerity in professional football, when players received an absurdly low maximum wage (little above skilled manual earnings) and had their contract terms dictated by the clubs.
Furthermore, in wider society, there was no compensation culture, no requirement to parade emotions in public. After two world wars, the victims of trauma were expected to show resilience, not indulge in blaming others.

Not that I agree with what happened but times were different, again if you try hard enough to be outraged you will succeed ;)

You didn't even have the decency to do a testimonial properly.
They had to wait 40 years and then it doubled up as a 'Goodbye for Eric Cantona' event as well.

Organisers received a bill revealing Cantona and his side had brought up to SEVENTY family and friends with them and booked in at the four-star 132 room De Vere Mottram Hall Hotel near Wilmslow, Cheshire.

The pounds 270-a-night hotel, which boasts golf course, swimming pool, health club, tennis courts and sauna, played host to the German team in the Euro 96 tournament.

The team had also chartered a plane from France while other guests flew in from across Europe.

Cantona's agent Pascal Carbon then submitted an expenses bill for accommodation and travel costs coming to a total of pounds 90,555.

It was settled the following October by the Munich Memorial Fund.

The survivors families only received 47,000 each.

Your club also asked the munich survivors for exhibits when they set up the exhibition in the museum then charged them to go in to see the things they'd provided.

I dont disagree with any of that and at last you are starting to do your homework, just try include sources to back up your grievances against UTD please :)

You might also decide which team you are supporting this year so we can go have a look if there are any skeletons in the closets of said club or are UTD the only club to have any?
