The one thing about salts you have to remove the cached urls within the addon settings as clearing cache doe not remove them. If you do notice the data on your build getting larger this maybe one of the causes.

I use the community portal addon and in the advanced options in maintenance there is an option to clear all cached folders. This will clear the cache folders on all your addons but it will not clear the cached urls on salts
