iPad iPad mini password locked out

I bought an iPad mini on iOS 7.1 with the password locked and no chance of finding the password. If I put it into recovery could I wipe and start again?

should be ok , ive reset a few phones and pads in recovery mode , if you can restore on the computer it was synced to then you can recover your data etc.

No will not work
You need the password
or its a brick.
It will restore and ask you for apple id and password of the owner.

as zomi says if it has been linked to an icloud account or had find my phone enabled , no matter what u do dfu restore it will not activate and yes it is a brick , i had to tell a friend exactly that , ios7 as new security measures in place , this was discussed in the jailbreak convention recently
