Don't know if this is the right place for this, but can't seem to find a related thread anywhere!

Does anybody know how i can delete the addresses in the IE 'Addresses' bar that appear when i begin to type something there?

I know i can turn off autocomplete but wanted to be able to delete the addresses instead of not using the autocomplete function.
Have tried clearing history which deletes the drop down list but they still appear when i begin to type there.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

could try

c:/windows/documents&settings/[whatever your user is]/history

and delete files from there (if any there)

also delete the temporary internet files (in IE ... Tools >> internet options >> delete files

can't find that folder steve, thanks anyway.

Could you expand on your reply "the dogs nuts"!
Not really a techie so as much help as poss would be appreciated

LoL, I know EXACTLY what ya mean, I was doing the same thing last night....

Try typing any letter into the address bar in IE.

It shows loadsa stuff that you might not want displayed.
Of course...my history only involves wholesome stuff so I have nothing to be ashamed off, but for the less angelic out there, may I suggest this little proggy:
IE Privacy Keeper
It's free, and works a charm.

As far as I'm aware...all yer previous searches/history is contained in Index.dat, but it don't like ya deleting/replacing this file.

Seedy is right about the hidden index.dat files containing your search history.
You can only delete them during the boot up sequence.
There are a number of app's that'll do it for you - once you run the app you have to reboot to clear the files out.

I use this one 'spider- hidden url inspector'' it's ancient, dating from 1999 but it's small ( only 656kb!!)
Its free and it works even for XP.

Plus it will clear out your URL cache's temp internet files and cookies too - a lot of programs that do all this will take up mb's worth of space.

if you have never used a cleaner like this before you will be AMAZED at what it will dig up!

If you do download it make sure you select 'search whole hard drive' in options menu before you run it as it will only search the windows folder by default.

Get it here

using IE right?
go to Tools > Internet Options > Advances > Then tick or untock the Display friendly URLs box. if that dont work then just clear history. :eatarrow:

Thanks for the responses, will give them a go although struggling on my work PC as i think you need admin rights!

Both programs look good, there are some other useful little programs on the site where IE privacy keeper is, take a look!

A way i do it it by, right clicking start, then customize (on the classic start menu) then clear.

It then erases all of the recently viewed documents, webpages etc.

With Internet Explorer open click on tools then internet options. Click on the content tab then autocomplete. You can now click on clear forms button which will clear the autocomplete history. There are also some check boxes which allow you to choose what you want autocomplete to do.

click start > run
type regedit enter
the in the registry goto

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\internet explorer\typedURLs

and here u will find what u are looking for simply delete the entries or type in a less porno sounding url
