help with a processor ? Intel Solano i815E

Hi,

I have a really old machine that i use for the odd bit of modding now and then, really, really old it is, trying to find out if I can put a little bit of a faster CPU in it?

Now don't laugh as it's way out dated. (but does the job for what I need)

so here are the specs.

do you have the PC model number, they should have a list of compatible CPU on the compaq (now owned by HP) BIOS page.

Assuming the FC-PGA statement and wikipedia are accurate, you've one of the faster Coppermine PIII CPUs.

It's possible there is a BIOS update that will allow you to fit a Tualatin PIII. But, as oneman said, you'll have to check the vendor website.

If you can't upgrade to Tualatin, you're unlikely to see any benifit from an upgrading to the 1100 or 1133MHz versions of the Coppermine PIII, and I'd recommend leaving it.
 
Can you slam in more RAM? Sometimes more useful than a faster processor.
