I have a purchased AU gold card which I have been using Ok. I am now getting the 'CANNOT VALIDATE THIS SMARTCARD contact .....' message all the time. Is there anything that I can do to resurrect it?

You can try one of the following:

Switch STB off (at plug socket ... not the on/off switch on STB) for about 10 minutes.

Switch STB off (at plug socket) for about 30 mins

Sometimes (but not often) just switching off and straight on again (at plug socket)

You could also try to leave STB alone and see what happens when it 'resets' itself after a few minutes

Hopefully one or other should work (it does with me usually .. but there are times it will do nothing until nextday and everything is alright then)

I have reset the box several times and also switched the power off for varying periods of time (up to 30 minutes). I am still receiving the message.

m8
the only way to rid yourself of the demon ecm is to update your hex. what hex are you using m8?
spiky

I don't know what hex it is using. It is one I bought. Is there an easy way to find out?

m8
the only way to detemine the hex is to use a programmer such as elvis. do you have one? if not then you will continue to be ecm'd and the advice given by digiperson is about the best
cheers
spiky

No I haven't got a programmer!!! What does STB stand for? (as in digiperson's post)

STB stands for Set Top Box.

The only way to get rid of this message completely is to return the card and get it reprogrammed. You would be better off getting your own programmer and learning how to do this yourself m8.

If you are interested in getting a programmer have a look at the elvis here.
