Griffin complaint over BBC 'mob'

I think it all depends on context and intent.

Paki has long been used as a term of abuse therefore it us regarded as such.

White, and for that matter black, is more often used as a descriptive and therefore is not regarded as offensive.

Whitey probably would be.

you missed one, brit= someone from britain, should we start saying brit isnt allowed to be said.

Whingeing POM ;)

lol, well its true matey, we get called brit but no reckons thats offensive so why should the others seem offensive?

i think the government aint running this country, is the legal/illegal immigrants. i wont get started as my views will probably get me banned as i get really angry at what i read and see on the news.

positive discrimination for minorities works. it's easy to speak from the 'majoritiy' point of view.

I always think this when people argue in favour of positive discrimination. If you are a passenger in an aeroplane, who would you rather assembled the engine the very best aeronautical engineer, who was selected for the job on his ability, or an aeronautical engineer who beat the best candidate on account of his ethnic origins or sexual orientation?

And when people complain about the lack of representatiuon of certain racial groups in certain jobs, I ask this - I have never seen a non-white motorway worker mending the road and very rarely see non-white people at blood donor sessions. Theatre audiences and restaurant customers are nearly all white.
Where they do have the edge is in prisons and as murder victims in London.

I wonder why?

Because you're a member of the BNP. You wear blinkers.

There are considered racist because they have been used in the past in a derogatory way - and many still are.

Terms like paki and nigger were intended to demean and belittle.

You may not have a problem: that doesn't mean there isn't one

The thing is, word are just words. They can only hurt you if you let them. By taking offense to them, you're just giving the words more power, when they could so easily be disarmed.

no they was not, they might be used by some people for that purpose but the very words are not defined in that manor.

should we start saying "we are going for a indian/pakistani/bangladeshi meal" instead of going for a curry

thing is we live in a "wers the blame thers claim" society and the fookers in power are shit scared of upsetting anyone and its fecking wrong imho but there feck all we can do about it (unless we vote bnp)

Substitute "National Socialist" for "BNP", and there you have your typical German punter in the early 1930s.

Sums it up nicely.

aye
and to think we had 2 world wars to stop europe being governed by one person!!!

p.s

i vote consersative by the way but do agree something has to be done to save this country otherwise it will only get worse

I give up. If, like Humpty Dumpty, you choose to make things mean what you want them to mean - without any reference to reality - then meaningful discussion is impossible.

You've completly lost me with this one, since when was curry an insult? Why would you have to substitute it for anything?

you see thats the problem its other people that are making things mean what they want them to mean.

meaningful discusion is not impossible if one is to listen to all sides and remove its self form all things derogatory and take them for what they are - which are just words

yes one could say "oi you paki bastard" and mean it in a derogatory way

but it could also be said

"oi you bastard"

both would be considered derogatory but which is worse?
my m8's call me a pikey but do i think its racist - na and why should i and even if someone who i dont know calls me a pikeys, i dont give a fook why should i?
also why are niggers aloud to call each other niggers?? or paki call each other paki's and ffs there is even a social website called paki.com ( i know this coz me m8 is from pakistan and he uses it)

anyway back to original topic.

i thought queston time was bad in the way it handled the situation imho griffin walked into a killing zone setup for him to fall. there was no decent questons just a lot of slur intended to shit on him.

i dont agree with everything the bnp stands for but i feel we live in a democracy and the last time i looked you could vote for who ever you and the candidate should be allowed to say his piece.........

And "Honkey" is a term of endearment is it.
