I've just got hold of a sky plus box very cheaply (haven't even tested it so I don't even know if it works yet). At the moment I have basic single LNB / Amstrad digibox setup with a freesat card being used in a holiday home. If I upgrade the LNB and connect the sky plus box (assuming it works), will I then be able to use the sky plus box (with freesat card) for recording / time shifting etc.? I read somewhere that it used to be the case that you had to pay sky to use the recording facility even if you had no subscription package - is this still true?

You may use the box to watch free to air/view channels, but unfortunately yes you do have to pay sky to use the recording facility.

Nice one Murdoch - so you want me to pay you to use something which I own even though I don't want any of your crappy pay-tv - foxtrot oscar :) If anyone wants a sky plus box, it's on ebay
