Stephen West, the son of serial killers Fred and Rosemary West, has been jailed for nine months for under-age sex with a 14-year-old girl. West admitted seven counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl who eventually became pregnant.The 31-year-old committed the offences between October and May 2004 while living in Worcester.
West, a builder of Stroud, Gloucestershire, appeared before Worcester Crown Court.
Judge Michael Mott told him: "You went through an experience when you were younger that no one would wish on anybody. If it's not unique it's in the highest degree unusual.
"You had a terrible childhood and the tragedy is that you have done a great deal to live that down.
"You have led a hard-working life, you have not got yourself into any trouble with the law."
The judge added: "You were not in any way responsible for what happened in your childhood, I understand all that.
"I also understand that it must have had a marked effect on you and your development."
But Judge Mott said his past was no excuse for the offences.
He said he did not consider West had "groomed" the schoolgirl and said it was "quite clear" she believed she was in love with him.
But as an adult, West should have realised the relationship was wrong and he should have "owned up" instead of taking the girl to an abortion clinic. He has been banned from contacting his victim until she is 16.
West denied another charge of sexual activity with a child, which has been left on file.
He has also been banned from working with children for five years and is not allowed to live where there are 13 to 16-year-old girls present.
