GRRRRRRR ! no thats not better

As most of you know, I have been pretty ill recently with pneumonia... and a pretty bad case at that. I have been put back on anti biotics again today as my chest is not clear yet.

Anyway, was in bed Saturday night as felt rough still and heard a bang... sort of bang you get when a sheet of laminated glass gets hit... looked out the window but could not see anything out of place... this was about 2230 at night. Could see some local louts but nothing else.

Anyway, drop kids off to school today ... go doctors and come home, go out and get in car to go shopping... look in the rear view mirror and what do I see behind it... smashed windscreen !!!! right at the top behind the mirror. Its a mk3 Mondeo ghia x btw, 2002.

Anyway, go to police station and file a report for a crime number. Then come home and call my insurance.

First of all try and get them to waiver my excess, as not only am I a victim and have to deal with the inconvenience of a smashed screen and not being able to really use the car, I dont see that I should be charged for it as well !

The insurance company say, "well we wont be able to recover the costs from the person that did it, so you have to pay" WTF !

Oh well, after hours of discussion they would not budge so I agreed I would pay the excess, not that I can afford it at the min who can really.... £50 but hey ho.

They said, call the glass line and they will arrange for an "equivalent" replacement to be fitted. At this point I said, hang on a min.... I want a like for like part, yes its an old car but I do not fit patten parts to it.

So here we go again, they try fobbing me off that the "equivalent" parts are "as good if not better than OE" LOL

The car has all original glass in it, so why should I settle for a screen that is not OE.

My reasoning for this is, RAC fitted a screen to my Escort MK6 a few years ago and it was a slightly different tint colour.... took a lot longer to clear the mist or ice from it than the original one ever did.. in fact I used to use a cloth.
RAC even sent out an engineer to check it was fitted and connected right, and it was.

After hours more phone calls, Started on the phone about 11am ... finished at 1700 !

Insurance company say "if you use your own supplier, as in Fords we will only pay £150 max minus £50 excess. But if you use our fitter, auto-glass we will pay any amount"

What they did not realise is I had called auto-glass about a dealer part (ford screen) and they said they could supply and fit this if agreed by the insurance company.

So I said to insurance company, So if you will pay any amount auto-glass can fit the ford screen as they can order the dealer part.... at which point she trys to backtrack saying "dependant on price/quote" !!!! So I held her to what she said and was put on hold..... she come back to the call and said "get auto-glass to quote us and I will see what we can do"

So get onto auto-glass and book it in for Wednesday afternoon which I think strange seeing as they have to order the part from fords as its not a stock item but special item (already called them too).

Get a call back from auto-glass around 1700 saying would be around 5 days to get the glass, thought thats fine I want a special part.... could of been trying too see if I didnt want to wait that long :p still said yea thats fine.

If I am having to pay £50 excess, they can pay the £318.68 screen cost from fords. Bet they wish now they scrapped my excess and fitted a std run of the mill screen. Instead, in my google research I found I could get a dealer part fitted if thats what was fitted when broken lol.

SO .... just waiting for them to phone me now to let me know when my glass in there :)

Id say score is 1 - 1 lol, being cost me money but cost them more as well. Got windscreen cover as extra so will use it :)
