Dell Dimension E520 CPU upgrade

Dear readers

I'm looking to upgrade the CPU in my Dell Dimension E520 Desktop, I have at the moment a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz Model 15, Stepping 2 and am just in the process of installing WIN7 with 6gig RAM.

Any idea as to what the best processor is that I could drop in ?

Depends on what you want to do with your PC.

Thats a hell of a lot of ram you are putting in and its a big upgrade.

Dont know if it will support it but with 6gig of ram, the typical processor you would want is an intel i7

Also make sure you have 64bit version of windows as the 32bit version only supports 3 gig of ram.

I run 8gb of ram on windows 64 bit and it makes things quite a bit faster as I dont need a swap file at all.

Check the dell website for BIOS updates which are often released for CPU support, it will list what processors are supported under the latest bios.

Just installed the RAM and WIN7 its running fine, the RAM was very cheep so I popped it in.
