Hi all

I am looking to upgrade my home built desktop which I have had for many years and not sure what to upgrade it too.

My current spec is:

Intel D865GBF Motherboard
2 Ghz Intel Celeron processor
1 GB DDR pc2700/pc3200 memory (4 slots available)
Windows XP (can upgrade to win7)
Intel 82865g Graphics controller
Maxtor IDE Hard Drive
CD/DVD writer

I have seen the below motherboards but not sure if they are suitable/compatible and what else I would need.

None of those are compatible with your current system.

With exception of the Asus P8P67 LE, I wouldn't view any of them as an upgrade either - a couple are side ways step.

From what you've asked, I'd hazard a guess that you budget is around £100?
Try: AMD Athlon 64 X2 7550 Bundle including AMD Athlon 64.. | Ebuyer.com
or: Intel Pentium G620 2.6GHz Socket 1155 3MB L3 Cache.. | Ebuyer.com + MSI H61M-P25 (B3) Socket 1155 mATX Motherboard | Ebuyer.com + EXTRA VALUE 2GB DDR3 1333MHz Memory Module 1.5V CL9 | Ebuyer.com
Of the 2 above I'd go for the Intel or save a bit more...

I'm not to worried about the cost. I didn't know if it was worth upgrading what i had or replace the whole lot?

Bearing in mind all the components in your system have been superseded, the only upgrade is a Socket 478 Pentium 4 CPU, more RAM and/or discrete graphics card. However, the Pentium 4 CPUs that fit that motherboard aren't worth having, DDR is difficult to get hold of second hand and extortionate new, and AGP graphics cards have been superseded by PCI Express ones.

If you're not too worried about the cost this is a nice setup:
Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz Socket 1155 6MB Cache.. | Ebuyer.com
Gigabyte GA-Z68P-DS3 Z68 Socket 1155 8 Channel Audio.. | Ebuyer.com
G-Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory.. | Ebuyer.com
XFX HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E.. | Ebuyer.com
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 Socket 775, 1156.. | Ebuyer.com
Seagate 500GB 3.5" SATA-III 6Gb/s Barracuda Hard.. | Ebuyer.com
