Damp Upstairs Help !!!

Thanks guys for the replies as there is a rent guy in there did not even know issue existed until today :( he goes it happened a few months back told him why did he not say anything to me was well pissed off !!

Defo need to sort the humidity and get the roof looked at and get in the loft as well.

H
Gona see if i can get a damp specialist to come out and have a look cos they do free surveys but dont want to get ripped off if its a simple issue like ventilation. But need more info before deciding how serious problem is.

The house was built in 1992 so 22 years old it is

What can i do in meantime to stop it spreading?

@faisalpandu

Varying opinions/options, as there should be!
I know it's not your priority, but please keep us updated. Nothing worse than being left in limbo.:)

Sorry, posted twice somehow. Still having intermittent timeouts? with forum.

First, get it dry. If opening the windows is not fast enough hire a portable dehumidifier.

See what the roofing guy says regarding whether the roof is the problem.

There's no point doing anything else yet.

As a quick fix till you get it looked at properly, bleach and water spray on and scrub off, dehumidifier running 24/7,that will stop any further spread, providing its condensation related,

Then get the gutters and roofing checked out,it might just turn out to be condensation only,so extract fans in bathroom and kitchen and then maybe the dehumidifier running for a couple of hours a day, that will only be necessary during the winter months (dehumidifier)

Thanks guys im gone get some fungicidal wash tomorrow from screwfix clean the damp as much as I can. Hopefully can get someone out to have a look at it tomorrow as well. Also have a humidifier at my parents house so will take that over as well

And then see if I can additional extraction put in the ensuite and the bathroom for a longer term solution.

Thanks guys for the advice
Will keep you posted.

Its a dehumidifier you need mate a humidifier will make it worse.

Ok thanks IAN pretty sure i got a dehumidifier at my parents i hope that sorts it

Update guys had someone come round and have a look saying its defo condensation issue humidity was 70% in the master bedroom defo need a better extraxtion unit and also an extractor im the ensuite and also u can get another thing that u can put in loft to extract air from there

Also
Need to check the insulation as well. Im kicking rent guy out in 3 weeks and then gona get someone in to get it all installed and then clear the mould and get anti fungi paint on the ceiling

Fingers crossed this will sort

You will get high humidity because water's causing the mould, whichever way it get's there. It's "chicken and egg".

I hope it works, but don't spend too much money on heavy duty extraction units. A master bedroom needs a fan ? Never heard of that.:)

Lol not the master bedroom the ensuite next to the master bedroom is quite small and only has a little window and this seems to be the worst area

Bang on @danforth. Been a bit busy but sweeping up now. If there's no evidence of a roof problem then it's condensation. If you MUST clean down as a temporary measure then use gloves and a mask as mould can be a health issue.

You have to nail the problem though - temporary fixes won't do that.
