Dads banned from nursery to avoid offending muslims

But it has angered both Muslims and non-Muslims and led the Equality and Human Rights Commission to investigate after dozens of fathers complained.

Muslim mother-of-one Ruksana Ayub said: “I understand why women would want a place like this where there are no men. They won’t feel they have to cover up so they might feel more able to relax and to socialise. But I’m quite modern in my outlook, so I also find it quite shocking that men aren’t allowed in. It’s a shame for kids who don’t have a mum.”

The move was branded a “worrying situation” by local councillor Habib Rehman, a Muslim and father-of-four.

Father-of-three Tariq Mahmood, of nearby Hall Green, said: “In the Muslim community men and women being separate is normal at religious events and social functions. But a play centre isn’t a religious or function thing. It’s somewhere for children to play. A ban on men gives the wrong impression about men.”

I could continue really. these rules arent brought in by muslims, they are brought in by the do-gooders which include non muslims.

Stories like these in fact give me some joy because although you get idiots coming out the woodwork with racist remarks and just falling for what the writer wants you to believe but for every one of them idiots you will see 10 people who you would love to share the world with. with common sense and the belief that we are all equal and shouldnt be judged by colour or religious beliefs or whatever else. it makes you believe that there is still good in the world and not all is bad. :)

frecking right i wouldnt

well it is not just single dads we should consider here...

what if there is a fire? will they demand a female only fire crew?

what if there is a medical emergancy? will they demand a female only ambulance crew?

what if there boiler breaks down? will they demand a female plumber?

how can looking at someone be disrespectfule????

fook off and gi'es peace...

It's sod all to do with islam.
It's a cultural issue not a religious one.

Sorry but any foreign person that lives in this Country should play by British rules. Its because of things like this that this Country is turning against foreign people. Religious or not its British rules that apply and indeed common sense. If these Mothers do not want the Fathers to be involved with the upbringing of their children or disallow them in nurseries then they should not be allowed to have any children at all. Its all really getting way out of hand.

Ban all-girl schools I say, women-only gyms, the Women's Institute, golf clubs that ban women...

...what about sexist hairdressers?

What about Triberg in Germany with gender-based parking spaces?

All non-events, nothing to see here, move along please :)

Thats the whole point, its not the mothers wanting a no men place. its the authority that has decided that men arent allowed due to offending muslims (of whom i doubt any one of them are muslims themselves).
to be honest if they just said women only or mothers play group, nobody would have batted an eyelid.

That is totally absurd. These people are imposing these rules for no other reason but to comply with their religious beliefs.

i used to take my three kids"at different stages in there life" to mums and tots play group. not 1 mum batterd an eye lid that i was the only man in there. and rightly so. there isnt any dads and tot groups round here.some 1 some were has said oh no not for men in this case.
be it a do wronger"gooder" .i cant see any were in the article* who has said men arnt welcome.muslim woman or the play group coordinater. would be good to see who's said they want a woman only play group as muslim woman dont want to be looked at. is it the muslim woman saying it or some 1 trying to get a reaction ?

Ok what makes these authorities think women can do a better job than a man can?. These so called dictators really need to get facts right before it gets put in to practice and, are all these authority people Muslims making up rules as they go along. Its bullshit mate. So Muslims can have babies together but after the baby is born they can take no part in the upbringing in a British society because some office prick thinks it may offend Muslim women if they mingle with men?.

dunno who these people are mate. it says in the article that they declined to give their name.

and no, a muslim man is allowed to bring up his kid.

my wife recently gave birth to a beautiful girl on friday. since then i have changed her, clothed her, washed her, been there at EVERY feed, not missed a single one. and guess what, im muslim.

just use common sense lol not dont take everything at face value.

dont get me wrong, there are some shit rules. crappy rules that muslims have, crappy rules that we have in this country.
there pricks in all walks of life, all cultures and all religions.
there are also good people.
not all rules and laws get made by people that have common sense...look at our politicians.

everybody seems to be in agreement here.

the nursery have made a poor decision
lets hope their prospective customers feel the same ( looks like they do) and vote with their feet..

Congratulations on the birth of your baby mate. Now you have put all your skills in to practice by changing, feeding babies ect, why can you not show it off in a female nursery. I brought my daughter up from the age of 6 Months yes it felt funny at first mingling with a load of Women all gossiping about you, but I will tell you what mate, it wasn't long before they was asking me questions about how I did things. So the question is you have the tools, you know what you are doing so why can't you go in to a female nursery and show it off. Its political bullshit again mate.

For those who don't know Islam prohibits the mixing of the sexes. This is why the nursery was made up so that women who choose to practice the rules of their religion can "let their hair down" at the nursery. In a mixed sex environment (one that includes adults), those women would have to cover up. And then there are the modesty issues of sitting, bending whilst playing with their children.

Would anyone's wife be comfortable breast feeding amongst other men or in an environment of women only?

Islam does not prevent fathers from bringing up their children. It charges them with this responsibility. They are accountable for them.

If you look at the old school buildings, you will notice there are gates for boys and separate ones for girls. There was also much made of the manifesto to have sections in Hospital wards for single sexes. This was primarily for the benefit of women who did not want have men around them.

We should be encouraging everyone to be good parents.

the parents do not stay in the nurseries with the children??

the nursery teacher do..

and what about the male nursery teachers?? are they not allowed to work there?

girls and boys schools have nothing to do with it. male and female teachers worked in both...

this thread is about discrimination nothing more, nothing less.
