Celtic appoint Johan Mjallby and Garry Parker

Johan Mjallby, Alan Thompson and Garry Parker have been confirmed as Neil Lennon's backroom staff as Willie McStay exited Celtic Park once more.

Mjallby is Lennon's assistant, having filled that role while the former Celtic midfielder was caretaker boss.

Thompson had already been announced as first-team coach on leaving Newcastle.

Parker will also be a first-team coach, but McStay, who had returned after a spell as Ujpest manager, does not figure in Lennon's plans.

McStay, 48, who had spent 15 years as youth then reserve coach at Celtic, had been linked with the managerial vacancies at Kilmarnock and St Mirren on returning to Glasgow this summer after a season in Hungary.

Charlie Mulgrew seals second Celtic spell

Celtic have signed defender Charlie Mulgrew after the free agent returned for a second spell at the club.

Mulgrew, 24, who was on Celtic's books for a four-year spell from 2002, left Scottish Premier League rivals Aberdeen in the summer.

The left-sided defender has signed a three-year deal and is manager Neil Lennon's first signing.

Celtic have been looking to bolster their defensive options following the departure of Danny Fox and Lee Naylor.

Fox joined Burnley in January after only six months in Glasgow, while fellow left-back Naylor was released in June after four years at Celtic Park.

Celtic release midfielders Zheng Zhi and Koki Mizuno

Celtic have released China captain Zheng Zhi and midfielder Koki Mizuno ahead of the new season.

Zheng, who can play in defence and midfield, was signed by Tony Mowbray after leaving English League One outfit Charlton last summer.

Mizuno joined the club from J-League side JEF United in January 2008 during Gordon Strachan's spell at Celtic.

But neither player forced their way into the first team and do not figure in manager Neil Lennon's plans.

Zheng made 16 first-team appearances for Celtic, while Mizuno clocked up 11 during his spell at the club.

South Korea right-back Cha Du-Ri is having a medical with Celtic and manager Neil Lennon is confident of signing the 29-year-old within days.

Hull City chairman Adam Pearson has confirmed that midfielder Jimmy Bullard is mulling over an offer to join Celtic on a season-long loan.

Sol Campbell will take some time to consider whether to sign for Celtic or accept a new deal from Arsenal.

celtic aim to bring the buzz back with vuvuzelas

Laura Brannan
CELTIC are excited to announce they will be turning the volume up next season and bringing the electric atmosphere back to the stands with the launch of their very own vuvuzela.

The novelty plastic horn is a national phenomenon in South Africa and has become a fans’ favourite during this summer's World Cup.

After demand from supporters, especially our young fans, green and white vuvuzelas will go on sale towards the end of next week at all official outlets.

The club are looking forward to raising the temperature and bringing the buzz back to Paradise as the fans get behind Neil Lennon and his team next season.

Celtic have completed the signing of South Korea right-back Cha Du-Ri, subject to a work permit.

The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Scottish Premier League club and is manager Neil Lennon's second recruit of the close season.

He starred for South Korea at the World Cup before they lost to Uruguay in the last 16 of the tournament.

Du-Ri, who was with Freiburg last season, also spent spells at Eintracht Frankfurt, Mainz and Koblenz.

The right-back, who was a free agent after leaving the German club in the summer, arrived in Glasgow on Wednesday ahead of undergoing a medical.

Don't cry 4 me Fiorentina,

Artur Boruc will sign for Fiorentina, according to the Italian club. The Celtic goalkeeper is reported by the Italian press to have agreed a two-year contract with the Viola, with the Hoops receiving £1.7 million for his services.

After months of speculation over the Polish player's future, things moved quickly on Monday after talk of Fiorentina's interest intensified over the weekend. Boruc was in the Celtic party which flew from Glasgow to London early on Monday morning but rumours began to circulate during the afternoon he had been withdrawn from the team's connecting flight to Philadelphia at the last minute.

Hours later, it became clear the goalkeeper was on his way to Italy for a medical instead of travelling onwards with his team-mates, who are bound for the USA to take part in four pre-season games.

Various sources in Italy revealed on Monday evening the keeper would arrive to provide competition to French keeper Sebastien Frey, who has been persistently linked with a move away from Fiorentina this summer.

Those reports were then confirmed by Fiorentina's official website shortly after 6pm, the Serie A club saying in a short statement they had agreed to sign Boruc, pending a medical. It read: "ACF Fiorentina can announce they have reached an agreement with Celtic for the acquisition of Artur Boruc. The negotiations will be formalised after the results of a medical."

Boruc, 30, moved to Scotland in 2005 from Polish club Legia Warsaw, quickly establishing himself as a fans' favourite at Celtic Park. However, with just one year left to run on his contract with the SPL club, speculation had been rife he would be sold this summer, to avoid Celtic losing the player on a free at the end of the season.

He leaves Scotland having made 220 appearances for Celtic in five years, during which he won three SPL titles, two League Cups and one Scottish Cup winner's medal.

Lukasz Zaluska, Boruc's compatriot, will take over the gloves for Celtic's four games in America, where they will play Philadelphia Union, Manchester United, Seattle Sounders and Sporting Lisbon. American keeper Dominic Cervi may also get the chance to impress new boss Neil Lennon, having found his opportunities limited since his move from Michigan Bucks in 2008.

Boruc's arrival in Florence will increase speculation over the future of current Fiorentina keeper Frey, who has most recently linked with a move to Aston Villa. Frey, who was capped just two times for France before he retired from international duty in 2008, has spent five years with the Viola and has spent the majority of his career in Italy, having also had spells with Internazionale, Verona and Parma.

Celtic confirm Joe Ledley signing
Celtic today confirmed the signing of Welsh midfielder Joe Ledley who has joined the club on a four year deal.

Talks had been ongoing with Ledley and his representatives over a free transfer move to Glasgow after the player’s contract at Cardiff City expired.

However, until this morning the Parkhead club had made no official comment on Ledley’s status, despite the Welsh midfielder being included in the squad for next week’s friendly against MLS side Philadelphia Union.

Philadelphia Union published the names of the 27 players who would be travelling for the match and the Welsh international was been included in that number.

32 times capped Welsh international Ledley is new Hoops boss Neil Lennon’s latest signing of the season as he attempts to wrestle the title away from SPL champions Rangers.

West Bromwich Albion and English Premier League side Stoke City had been tracking the star and his decision to move north is a coup for Lennon who will be able to get the highly rated midfield star’s services for free.

The Bluebirds would have been entitled to a seven-figure transfer fee had Ledley, who is out of contract, joined a fellow English league club under Football League regulations.

But Ledley’s decision to move to another association means Celtic will land him on a free transfer. Cardiff would still have been able to pursue a far reduced fee from the Hoops under Fifa’s training compensation scheme, had Ledley signed an agreement to move to the SPL before the end of last season.

However complex transfer rulings mean Celtic can sign the player without making any payment to the Welsh club.

One player who looks like he won't be joining Ledley north of the border is Jimmy Bullard with reports suggesting his wage demands have scuppered a loan move to Celtic with Hull blaming Bullard for the collpase..

"The deal is off as far as we are concerned because of absolutely ridiculous financial demands being made by the player," Hull head of football operations Pearson

Celtic's Mexican midfielder, Efrain Juarez, has been cleared to play in next week's Champions League qualifier against Braga in Portugal.

The 22-year-old World Cup player, who has signed a three-year contract with an option for a fourth, was granted a work permit on Thursday evening.

The former UNAM Pumas utility player can now join his new team-mates.

Neil Lennon's side take on the Portuguese league runners-up in the third qualifying round on Wednesday.

Although the Portuguese side are making their Champions League debut, albeit in the qualifying rounds, this is their seventh consecutive season in European competition.

The return leg will be played at Celtic Park on Wednesday 4 August.

Marc Crosas is Euro outcast

Marc Crosas’s future at Celtic was today cast in doubt when he was left out of the squad for their Europa League knockout games against Utrecht.

The Spanish midfielder has hardly featured since Neil Lennon took over from Tony Mowbray. And, with the influx of new players who can operate in midfield – Beram Kayal has gone straight into the Europa squad – the former Barcelona player could be one of the men moved out before the window closes in just over two weeks.

Andreas Hinkel is another who does not figure in the 25-man pool for the matches against the Dutch side next Thursday and a week later.

Utility defender Milan Misun also drops out this time, with Ryan Conroy coming in as cover for Charlie Mulgrew at left-back.

One more player can be registered up until midnight on Wednesday, and Lennon has revealed he still hopes to secure three or four new faces.

Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan has signed a three-year deal with CSKA Sofia after passing a medical, ending his four-year stay in Scotland.

Sheridan, 21, was a recent guest of the Bulgarians at their derby match against Levski Sofia and returned home to make a decision about his future.

The Republic of Ireland cap was on loan at St Johnstone last term and had also been loaned to Motherwell and Plymouth.

He has twice been capped by his country after graduating from the Under-21s.

Celtic to sign Swedish defender Majstorovic

AEK Athens defender Daniel Majstorovic will sign for Celtic on Saturday, pending a medical with the club. The Swedish central defender will become Neil Lennon's eighth signing of the summer and is expected to sign a two-year contract.

Majstorovic, who played from the start in his country's 3-0 win over Scotland in midweek, has 34 caps. Aged 33, the imposing player will end Lennon's search for experience at the heart of his backline, having missed out on Sol Campbell earlier in the window.

the player has already agreed personal terms with the SPL club and will be immediately added to the Celtic squad for their Europa League qualifier with FC Utrecht, the first leg of which will take place on Thursday.

“I spent two beautiful years in Greece and with AEK Athens,” Majstorovic told AEK's official website on Friday. “I'm glad I had the opportunity to play at such a great team. I want to thank everyone who worked this time, and the world of the club for its support.

“For me, moving to Celtic is a very good chance and they are a major European club. Tomorrow [Saturday], I go to Glasgow to go through medical screening and then sign my contract.”

The well-travelled Majstorovic, who in joining Celtic will sign for his eighth senior club, will provide much needed options in defence for Lennon and comes on the recommendation of current assistant boss Johan Mjallby.

The 6ft 4in defender has spent the last two seasons with AEK Athens and had one year left to run on his contract with the Greeks, who are due to play Dundee United in the Europa League this mont.

Majstorovic moved to Athens from Swiss club Basel in 2008, having forged an unlikely reputation as a frequent goal scorer at St Jakob-Park. He was their second top scorer in the 2007/08 season, scoring 11 goals and finishing one behind leading marksman Marco Streller.

Having started his career with Swedish club IF Broomapojkarna, the defender moved to Germany to play for Fortuna Koln in 1997, before returning to his home country to play for Vasteras SK.

Malmo FF then came calling in 2001, before Dutch club Twente snapped him up three years later. Majstorovic lasted just one season in Holland however, moving on to Switzerland in a 1.3 million Euros move.

Haven't seen that much of him but he looked pretty sharp against Argentina midweek. Won't do him any harm going abroad & experiencing a different culture, Good Luck to him for going for it!!

Celtic have completed the signing of Honduras full-back Emilio Izaguirre for an undisclosed fee.

Izaguirre trained with his new team-mates on Wednesday after agreeing to move from Motagua in his homeland.

However, the 24-year-old will not be available for Thursday's Europa League qualifier against Utrecht.

Izaguirre, who becomes Celtic manager Neil Lennon's ninth summer signing, will vie with Charlie Mulgrew for the left-back slot in the side.

Celtic's latest recruit featured against Chile and Spain in the World Cup in South Africa, but missed his country's match against Switzerland.

"He trained today," revealed Lennon. "He won't play tomorrow but should be available for selection after that.
