Cable Attenuators which size?

i am amaze u can use that high of an attenuator and still get good snr reading ... it may of drop ur ds power level but ur uptsream is still qiute low, but hey if its working good dont worry about it

he used a forward path attenuator thats why it hasnt afected the level in the "reverse or upstream" path so to speak.

What are the differences between normal attenuators, forward path attenuators and equalizers?

Which one should I get for cable modems? The current power level down is about 20dB, upstream about 32dB
So I'm guessing I need a -9dB attenuator to get it to around the 10dB range.

I've had a quick look on ebay but not sure on which ones to get and where to get some from. Any links would be appreciated please.

A normal attenuator will just attenuate your line (upstream & downstream) by the relevant level 3,6 or 10dB, a forward path attenuator will only attenuate your downstream level and leave your upstream level as it is.

For your signal levels either a standard 10db attenuator or a 10db forward path attenuator will do.

Downstream Channel
Lock Status Locked Modulation QAM256
Channel ID 1 Symbol rate 5360537
Downstream Frequency 402750000 Hz
Downstream Power -1.9 dBmV
SNR 40.0 dB

Upstream Channel
Lock Status Locked Modulation QPSK
Channel ID 3 Symbol rate 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream Frequency 25800000 Hz
Upstream Power 30.0 dBmV

Just fitted a 20db forward path attenuator and now my Upstream Power has gone up to 30.0 dBmV from 26.0 dBmV

I thought that fitting attenuators would not increase my upstream power....
