Buying oppurtunities for stocks, shares and commodities

BP
These guys are getting hammered from all angles. The share price dropped to 348 today and finally finished on 366.

Any thoughts on the share price, will it go lower or what will drive it lower? I'm thinking that possible legal action in the USA could drive the share price even lower, but I really fancy placing a bet now as I am unable to sit at my desk all day and wait for the hourly dips.

Does anyone own any BP shares? I would love to hear your thoughts on this one people, especially share holders.

I've kind of been thinking along the same lines myself mate. Been considering buying some shares in BP, however, my understanding is that their share prices are still going to drop in the coming months. It all depends on the outcome of the investigation into the oil leak, and the resulting prosecution or lack thereof.

Need to do some background reading and see what I decide.

Whatever the outcome of the investigation I don't see this as being the end of BP, they possess a far too stronger a balance sheet to be hurt by any kind of damages that could have to be paid out.

I wouldn't say months mate, possibly weeks but I'm no specialist in oil :(

Not sure the dip has finished for them, have to wait on the Asian market to see what way they see it and then when they reopen again tomorrow. I guess getting the timing right to buy BP shares would be a master stroke. IF the recovery comes along then the world will need more of their products.

Athough BP owned the rig, I still havent seen which oil service company was using it or whether it was BP itself (unlikely though) as the almost always use specialist companies, so who was to blame for the emergency shut off valve being missing....the builders of the rig, the oil services company or BP itself ???

You can be sure if BP can apportion any blame elsewhere then it will.

BP reckons it has cost them over 1 billion already, thats loose change to them though, there will just be less to pay out in bonuses. Th US is really going to stick the boot in, theres no doubt about that but I wonder if in the long run it is maybe one of their big oil services companies to blame will they still go for the throat.

I dont gamble with shares but if I did, I would hold off for another while before buying their shares but I would buy them.

Will do mate. Well it depends on the outcome and the resulting prosecution as I said, and BP's ability to bounce back strong from that. I agree that they are far too strong to be hurt but their ability to recover from that will reflect in their Share Prices. Also with the US Justice Department calling for a suspension on dividends, it will add further to the volatility of their short-term share prices.

As Jaffa has eluded to it is all a matter of timing it right but to be able to find the right moment to invest will prove to be tricky one.

We have to question what impact the blame game will have on BP's share price, can it lead to more panic than a burst pipeline in US waters and it's president firing at you with all guns blazing?

I'm trying to figure out if this is the height of the panic. The time to buy is when there's blood in the streets. As a contrarian investor it feels pretty damn bloody to me, that 7% drop today was brutal. That cliff on that end of the yearly chart is crazy.

Lets see what happens tomorrow morning, the bottom must be approaching.

According to the experts this isn't that big of an oil spill :FRIGHT:

It seems a bloody big spill to me, I am not a BP hater but one way or the other they will have to pay a big price for this, can they recoup some of it eventually...anyones guess.

BP will recover from this...I am 99% sure of that but don't rule out another drop, the Yanks want to put the blame on anyone but them, it's time to kick BP and get things through their system while people focus on this issue.

NO...I am not a conspiracist but I would be prepared to gamble that they are using this BP spill for their gain. I may have a clouded mind though, cos I just hate the Yanks at the minute.

Obama the new messiah....my bollocks

BP have a chequered history in in the US,Texas city refinery explosion did'nt do them any favours then or at the mo,with the ongoing leak.

I managed to get a bet in at 370 and it's rallied 7% in an hour. I feel like selling already...

Got in there yesterday at 371 after selling some of my other shares m8.

Not sure about selling it yet as I think this will be the start of the recovery and even if it does go further down, speculations about takeover etc will drive it up.

Once Obama and Cameron starts talking and Obama backs off BP and more oil is syphoned off - price should go back up to their normal price IMO.

Good call

I'm not really in a position to play the markets and would have sold today had I been able to get to my desk before the close of trading. Now I'll just place a stop at 365 and keep my fingers crossed that it rises in the long run.

Well done to all that gambled on this stock.

Another thing to think about :

- There must be alot of oil down there for it to be spewing out so much by itself.

- I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that BP is currently the only one with the facilities to pump oil there and with Obama putting a stop to any further offshore drilling for now - once this all blows away then BP's profits should really lift off.

Here's hoping anyway. :)

BP are not the only ones with deep water rigs out there but they are the biggest and produc far more than anyone else.

Thats why I think you may have a good buy with BP shares, this spill will eventually go away but BP wont, the Yanks cannot afford to do without the oil the produce. I think in a year or so the price will be back above 500 and will probably go a lot higher. They may be a wee dip 1st but thats expected depending on how the Yanks proceed.

How do you get in on the act? With BP's shares falling this looks like a great time to buy?cause they can only go up after this wee accident! Lol

always wanted to play the Market lol

Cheers

I guess the dip came along then, (9%) but they will rise again. I am sure of it.

BBC News - US oil spill: BP shares plunge as board talks dividends

The last 5 mins of BP trading today were bizarre. I could swear that I checked at 4.40pm and the share price was 363. According to the chart below there was a monster rally and shares ended at 393.
