Buying a dvb-c

If you need any more info or EXTRA help you can always PM me I should have the pack laying around if you cannot find it.

The reason I ended up he is due to no one on the thegreenbutton talking about DVB-C and only DVB-S

Thanks just dropped you a message as did have some questions. Like you, I have had trouble finding much info on DVB-C. I even had one thread closed down on avforums.com because i mentioned VM!

Ahh I see what you mean, it does drop off occasionally but it does not require a reboot I just have to pull the cards change to BBC One then replace the cards and normally all is working again. I am not sure if this is because I am having to use the Beta driver for the FloppyDTV cards to get them working correctly with Vista Media Centre + TV Pack..

never had that issue floppydtv - white icecrypt (0.79 joker) au fun 5 vistamce....since adding tvpack get the blue scrambled screen while changing channel just for a second sometimes

Sorry, newbie alert :Dunce: I get the cam and firmware part of your set-up but how does the au fun 5 fit in??

My DVB-S FloppyDTV is pretty temperamental in VMC, there are still a few firmware / driver bugs.

I modified the firmware of my Trex 4.6 CAM so it works for DVB-C without any smartcard,

the same trick should work for your Dragon CAM,

I can give you the firmware but you would need to load it somehow [CAS or Phoenix + loader card]

It does not AU but you can enter the keys with the remote control when they roll.

I have a different DVB-C card but there is a bit of general back-ground here if its any help:

btw, VMC + TVpack 2008 will detect DVB-C cards using standard BDA drivers [no DVB-T hack]

It finds the VM EPG but it won't tune anything, does anyone know how to edit the frequency list?

The Windows7 beta MediaCenter should also work but I haven't tested it yet.

Hi Nick,

yes you are right there is not 'Hack' involved it does work with those drivers but it does still show up as a DVB-T card.

The frequency list is quite easy to change I found a guide to it on the digital-everywhere site (cannot find it just yet) I am having to edit my list to get all the channels showing.

The FloppyDTV's special "MCE driver" is still doing a DVB-T mapping trick to get the card tuned.

TechnoTrend cards do a similar trick using this:

http://www.technotrend.de/Dokumente/87/software/bda/MCE-Tools/TT-MCE-Tools 1.0.5 x64.zip

http://www.technotrend.de/Dokumente/87/software/bda/MCE-Tools/TT-MCE-Tools 1.0.5 x86.zip

I use it with my TT1500-C, I would be interested to know if it works with the TT2100C / 2300C ?

Only after you install the 2008 OEM TVPack will it detect DVB-C/S cards running standard BDA drivers

old VMC never used to do this, I would like to be able to get the cards working natively,

this means we could use other much cheaper makes of card that only have normal BDA drivers,

but I don't know where VMC hides the transponder list so I can't enter the right frequencies.

Just an experiment, I should get out more... lol 8)

@ tups

Let me know if you have any way to load that Dragon CAM and I'll send you the firmware,

just to get you up and running until you get the other kit.

Hi Nick

This is the file I created to import into the register, I got the frequencies from using a scanning program.

Hope it helps

Thanks, but I already have my FireDTV & TechnoTrend cards working using DVB-T mapping.

For my project I need to find out where VMC is storing its own transponder database,

it must be in the registry or the ehome folders somewhere?

I think it is an SQL database, I found a tool called mce_query_v1.0 that might help.

Then we would "just" need to get softCAMs working in VMC,

I know a few developers who say it can be done using the directshow MDAPI wrapper.

Bad news though, Micro$oft are working on a new driver DRM system called Protected BDA:

https://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/broadcast/PBDA/pbda_spec.mspx

http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/b/9/5b97017b-e28a-4bae-ba48-174cf47d23cd/MED076a_WH06.ppt

this might stop all our current TV cards working with encrypted channels!

Sorry to crash your thread with all this gumph, I'll let you guys no if I get it working.

yeah thats the one i got 2008 OEM TVPack installed but some challes show no epg

The only sure fire way is to plug in a analog TV tuner card (it does not have to be connected to anything you can do a manual setup) then run the TV setup. If you do this then VMC will use the downloaded TV guide instead of the OTA guide you would normally have with DVB-T card (as this is what VMC sees the DVB-C cards as).

Once you have done that you need to then go back into the settings screen and edit the channels. VMC will merge the channels that it can recognise but the others will need doing manually, the channels from the DVB-T card will generally start at channel 1000.

So for example you have BBC One on channel 1 (this from the analog guide) and channel 1070 (this from the DVB-T source) you edit channel 1070 then goto edit listing and select BBC One (channel 1) it then asks if you want to Shift, Merge or Cancel you select Merge then select the first option on the next screen (cannot remember the wording) and it will merge the 2 channels leaving only Channel 1 in the guide and removing channel 1070 now all your tuner sources will be mapped to channel 1 and you will have the correct guide data....

You have to do this for each channel that you need...
