OK, just been watching the boxing and when I looked at Sylvester Stallone's face, it got me thinking - I want to get rid of my belly fat.

I have had a gut about 8-9 years when I started living off battered burgers and pints of Cains bitter from when I was a student.

I am finding it really hard to shift, I think becasue it has been there for so long... Has anyone got any tips on how to get rid of it appart from the obvious diet and cardio... Don't really want to go down the suppliment rout either! Fat everywhere else seems to shift but not the gut...

Well weight train, weight train and more weight train them ab's!

Diet, diet & more diet. Dont bother with the cardio if you want to get ripped like that. Or if you really must do cardio then just some light cross training or cycling. Regards the diet, stackup on protein like chicken breats & very lean steak. Loads of veg like greens etc..broccoli not peas, carrots or parsnip (they've got higher sugar levels). Max 100 grams of carbs per day & never any carbs after 4pm. You need to eat less calories than you body needs for around 6 weeks. Take a look round the body sites for body builders diet. Bodybuilding.com is a good place to start.

After April i'll doing then same as what you are wanting to do. Cant atm becuase I'm currently training for the Flora London Marathon 2009 and need my carbs :) I've been weight training as well combined with cardio for last 2 years, lost 3 stones all in all :)

Thanks mate.

Thats a nice clean workout plan, easy to read and follow for beginners. I have a site I started off using which got me off my arse and interested. We will have to make a potential sticky thread to put them in and so everyone else can add theirs.

I have only been doing 3 days a week weights with cardio in between. When I have tried to step it up in the past I feel like shite and get ill and have to take days off to recouperate and regroup.

Might try it again though working to this plan.

belly fat is so hard to get rid off . your abs can look great then you move your belt and bang there it is the wee pouch . sit ups dont really do it . see you can build up muscle behind the fat and all it does is push the fat out futher you really need to lose the weight first . anyone ive every trained with always says you need to lose weigth before putting it on .

I think theres varying views on this, I train at the same gym as these guys MonsterMuscle.co.uk One of them, Glen Danbury has been the BNBF uk champion for years. Google Glen Danbury & you'll find out a lot about what he does.

These guys do not do any cardio, they rely on weight training & the correct diet for their body weight.

Remember too much cardio will burn the muscle you build aswell as bodyfat.

thats true . thats why ive stopped doing all this running . it was keeping me back . im swimming more now . thats good for the stomach . and nearly every other muscle . i was losing weight instead of putting it on . lol .

After I compete in the Flora London Marathon in April, I'm going to try a body builders diet to try & get ripped.

One thing to remember guys, getting rid of tummy fat & getting ripped does NOT happen over night. It all depends on your body size, metabolism, body fat, age etc..

I've been training now for around 2 years & lost 3 stones, but not got as ripped as I'd like to have.

You just have to keep at it :)

Well weight train, weight train and more weight train them ab's!

Every man to their own thing but personally I'm not a fan of weight-training for the abs and core areas. Especially not with heavy-ish weights.

Instead I'm a big advocate of core conditioning with just the floor and gravity!

If you've got those 2 things then you've got everything you need for a VERY TOUGH midsection workout.

If you need some pointers? Here you go - loads of excellent core training ideas for you here (and if it's good enough for Manny Pacquiao, then it's good enough for the rest of us!)
