Hi

Picked one of these up in local Asda for £150, had the 160Gb in as well :Hit:

Comes with Linux but have put my own XP3-Lite on it and upgraded ram ( £10inc del) to 1.5GB.

Runs like a dream and awesome little notebook for having around house/taking out and about with you.

Will not find anyhing like this at the same price.

cheers m8,
been looking at these for my twins birthdays and thats a crackin price, might even get my lappy back then.
is upgrading memory just like a laptops ie easy to do via a cover on bottom.

Upgrading the RAM is a bit of a pain. [ame=http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1MBuizr_s4]YouTube - Acer ASPIRE ONE ram upgrade tutorial[/ame]

Probably voids the warranty I would think.

have you got the model number so I can phone my local store?

My dad got one of these and it has the 160gb hard drive too. Amazing price for what he got, and its now running windows xp and full of a bazillion comedy series avi's :) Well worth the price.

Quick question mate, did u do the ram upgrade aswell?

If not, did it run fine without it?

Yes was doing the ram upgrade as posting on my other pc, i found it easy enough but have worked on loads of wii's, 360's etc.
The youtube video is different from the 120/160GB one from Asda, this also needs to be unscrewed.

The keyboard comes out simply, i would use a flat knife/small driver to push tabs in and a flat craft knife to lift the board. After that screws (easy).

The only way people may have probs is with the 'snap' connectors which connect keyboard/touchpad. These lift up(as in wii) mine popped off as in video but just snap it back in before putting ribbon back.

The other connector just pulls out/wireless card unlugs easy.

Had ram from Crucial -See acrer one user forum/ukhotdeals.

Also bear in mind you have to install windows via USB which is simple enough.

Mine is now running faster/better than my £400 dual core Vista...lol

Forgot to mention it took about 15mins but that is only because i pulled both ends out of smaller ribbon.

Also with regards warranty, NOTHING to worry about, no seals broken at all, and its Asda, put a brick inside and take it back...lol

I didnt do the ram upgrade on my dads and didnt on an older one my daughter has. Both run XP excellent without the need for the extra ram :) Because they are just for simple basic everyday use i doubt they will need ram upgrades to cope with a mass of hungry programs or heavy graphics games etc, so i didnt bother.

i got 1 after seeing the first post this morning phoned oldbury asda and they kept the last 1 for me until i got there mine has 160gb harddrive and a compartment that seems to be for memory upgrade.

Getting a lot of PM's and since it's a fairly simple job and so cheap you may as well do the ram upgrade, here is the ram i bought -

Computer memory upgrades for Acer Aspire One Netbook from Crucial.com

To install windows here is the one i used, XP3-Lite (top 3 files from megaupload) -

Acer Aspire One User Forum • View topic - XP Pro SP3: Updates until Dec 08 and AAO Drivers Integrated

This is the instructions i used -

[ame=http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vt_8p0VllY]YouTube - Installing Windows XP on a Netbook Via USB (Acer Aspire One)[/ame]

When created USB boot stick, select 'CANCEL' when asked to add windows setup details so you can enter key later ***SEE READ ME FILE****

I could not create one using Vista even in Window xp2 mode.

Plus i had to put all my files in C Folder when creating the USB XP Stick

Just reserved mine at a local store, gonna collect on my way home this evening :)

The compartment underneath is not for ram mate. I thought that. I an using U torrent on mine now. It is bundled in with the XP3-Lite.

What is the model number please

Just looked underneath and is ACER ONE SERIES. MODEL - ZG5.

Never on my tower pc now. Just use this most time. Also installed AVIRA FREE FIREWALL/ANTIVIRUS.
