i use flux and a flame gun and a small flat ended screw driver bent at the end to take it off

Well I've just bought a 15w fine tip solder, a solder sucker and desolder braid....Hopefully should work without damaging the chip....

should work ..but you might find 15w might not be hot enough to do the job ..with the flame gun it heats all the legs at once ..then just flip it off ...

I have got a 30w iron as well....I tried to get it off last night but didn't have any desolder braid or solder sucker...

Seemed to be as quick as solder was melting it was re hardening as i had to each leg individually...

What's the best way then? Heat the legs and pull chip?

hold the 30w on one side all 4 legs if poss and lift with a blade or flat screw driver.... then do the other side

I'll try it later on ....Gotta admit I'm kinda shite at this sort of fiddly stuff....Do you hold the iron at the bottom of the legs when trying to get the chip off??

Also are they easy to put back on...I ain't got any spare so really wanna remove/blank and replace with damaging the chip...

In B&Q they had a gas iron for like £20...Is this what you use?

Thanks goes to video maker Tangoman.

Cheers mate....Was looking for that vid in downloads but couldn't find it...

Well taking the 8 pin chip off a V+......I need all the vids and help I can get tho...

Solder all 4 legs on each side together first. Then heat up all 4 on one side and lift the chip up slightly with ha scaplel blade. Then to the same the other side. Repeat 3 or 4 times and the chip will lift off cleanly. Remove excess solder from the pads and the chip legs with solder wick.
Job done.

Done it!!! :)

Went to B&Q on the way home and got one of those gas solders and a can of butane....Put it on a low pressure and warmed the legs and off came the chip... Hopefully it's not been damaged so I can just blank it and pop it back on...Can you pop the chip back on by just putting it in place and heating the solder like I did with the gas solders or will it need more than that??

Thanks for all your help too guys...

Perhaps a bit of solder from a flux pen as well?

Whilst your all being soooo helpful....How do I blank the chip....I'm a n00b to all this soldering chips game....

I bought this the other day:

Link

On my PC I've got a couple of programs such as winpic, picprog4u and icprog although icprog gives me a "priveleged instruction" error when opening it.

Is there a tut to explain how to blank a chip. From what I've read you prog the chip with all F's and then pop it back onto board. As I'm from pure it should autoset netid etc....

good luck mate uve got more confidence than me i could never do anything like tht hope it works for ye!!

Cheers

Well the way I look at it is this....At the moment the V+ is no good to me....If i fook the board it's still no good to me so I might as well chance it and fix it...

I found now I have the right tools it is much easier..With the gas solder the solder melted in seconds and the chip lifted with the smallest of effort however I did have a lil try with a normal solder last night and it didn't work...

With the right tools I'm sure I can fix it lol :)
