A few people have told me they rung TV licence place to cancel their licence and state the don't watch any BBC progs live or recorded.
And they never hear from them again?
Does this really work?

Is this really worth the hassle you could get for the low sum of £13 per month best to leave it that way then keeping an eye out the window just in case someone watching if the payments was a lot per month then maybe worth a punt but it’s a personal choice only you can make really

It's ANY program as it's broadcast, not just the BBC channels.

If you watch stuff from DVDs etc, play on a console, you DON'T need a licence, although they will give you loads of grief and want to send "inspectors". Who have zero power whatsoever.

You have to inform them every two years that you are still not watching live tv. It's easily done through their website.

The plot thickens.
I'll definately look into that.

You don't "have" to do anything of the sort, they just want to confirm it's the same person at the same address.

I'd suggest reading TVLicensing resistance, Google it.

Surely they could be informed by Sly or Virmin that you do indeed have incoming tv and do watch it, that is of course if you have these platforms?
I am sure when I last bought a tv from a shop I was told that I would need a licence and that that tv licence people would be informed i had bought a tv?
It is strange that it is a BBC thing though and it will always cause discussions around the legal stuff

Every time i buy a TV i give the name address of a particular person i don't like.... although i've always had a valid licence.
I have Sly tv so i see what you're saying...
I watch about 30 mins of tv a day....99% Eurosport channels.

You don't need a licence for a TV, that is a myth. Shops do it, I've experienced it myself, so they can obtain your address to sell.

You only need a licence if you watch "live broadcast" programs

Never had one for about 10 yrs now, I do my declaration every 2 yrs. In fact before I moved house, it was like they had lost my account as never got any emails or visits. When I moved I tried to log in to my account and I didnt exist so had to mail them and got them to move my address. No visits or emails so far and thats been 3 years ago. Its like they have gave up or no resources to follow up now.

I only have VM internet and no TV subscriptions.

We've not had a TV licence for around 20 years, never had any hassle at all.

I have no problems finding all the best TV shows to download, not that we watch much stuff.

The BBC should be forced into finding a better way of being funded.

ITV, Channel 4/5 etc.. do not charge you but yet you have to pay the licence or you can't see them.

You pay for sky, Virgin, BT etc.. and yet you have to pay again for the licence.

I have no problem with the BBC wanting to be paid for their service but they are forcing you pay for stuff you should get for free. The BBC are the only ones benefiting from the licence, they are the one collecting the tax too.

I ignored paying my licence for years without any hassle. Even had a guy show up at the door from tv licensing and asked for me by name. I simply replied "I'm not in". He gave me a strange look, said thank you and walked away never to be seen again 😂

Then as time got on and I got older I decided to start paying it again. Decided it wasn't worth the hassle avoiding it and possibly ending up in Court with my name being shamed. I don't agree with it in the slightest but at least I don't need to worry about a knock on the door.

If you are worried about how to deal with the Licence Enforcement Officers (AKA 'Goons') there are plenty of videos on YT, some quite amusing, other definitely NSFW.

Like I'd want this old spunker messing on with my stuff; look at him messing on (Win98 PC :)). What's he going to do in my place? There's about twenty to thirty computers, of various states and ages, a few old OnDigital boxes, no more cable boxes :), around ten or twelve monitors, various bits of test equipment with screens.

It doesn't actually matter if you have equipment capable of receiving broadcasts, it's if you actually use it to do so. A lot of the Crapita goons will convince people to self-incriminate by that form they use (187, is it?). Or they fabricate "evidence" that they have seen you watching broadcast TV. There is a good YT one where someone confronts a Crapita goon because he's pointing a telephoto lens camera into his daughter's bedroom.

These people are on commission, and are the same level of filth as litter patrol, who also fabricate stories, fine old biddies for hankies getting blown out their hand etc.

Should be grateful they don't follow other countries for instance in Turkey they stick 2% on your electricity bill and also a charge on appliances.
Portugal and Serbia also add a fee on to the electricity bills.
In Germany it's around £180, Austria the TV tax is around £200-£300 and you pay for the radio still £50-£70

I think they should be like quite a few countries where there is no licence at all.
