Sergio Romero: Manchester United sign Argentina goalkeeper

Manchester United have signed goalkeeper Sergio Romero as a result of the uncertainty over David De Gea.

Argentina international Romero, 28, was a free agent after leaving Sampdoria and will replace Spaniard Victor Valdes, who has been told he can leave.

Romero, who signs a three-year deal, played in the 2014 World Cup final and won the 2008-09 Eredivisie title under Louis van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar.

De Gea is into his final year of his contract and is wanted by Real Madrid.

"We have to prepare our season with the threat that David De Gea is going to Real Madrid," said Van Gaal.

"Sergio Romero can fulfil that because we have to handle it very quickly if it happens."

Whatever do you mean? He did a cracking job last season. Lol ;)

55 injuries using 37 different players despite no European football.
Getting us to fourth spot with relative ease, your quite right, he did do a cracking job.

see you left Barca out
personally not that bothered but still dont think he is your shining light
but do prove me wrong by winning the double EPL & ECL

Barca are there mate, in 2nd place :) just ahead of United and then Ze Germans. We are certainly able to compete.

Honestly, I'm not sure what Van Gaal is capable of when it comes to winning the EPL but ECL I've no doubt at all he's capable. He's created some amazing sides through his career. What is clear, are his credentials ! What is also clear is he has us moving in the right direction from Moyes disastrous tenure and not just towards the EPL but the players he's moved on (17 in total) and the players he's bringing in have given us a squad that will stand up and be counted. Di Maria and Falcao really should have been good signings but didn't work out for one reason or another and the manager shows he's bloody ruthless.
We've Bastian Schweinsteiger wearing Tom Cleverley old shirt lol, we've two decent players for every position, the football is controlled by possession and pressing and no side in the league fancies rolling us over.
This United team will push hard, and it's not finished yet.

deffo not finished

effin jones or is that
johnny evans oops lol
glad you happy with way of it time will tell i guess

Looks like, Madrid playing hard ball over Ramos who would solve a problem or two despite his red cards.
If we're daft enough to allow De Gea to go the other way without extracting one of their best players as part of the deal I would rather we kept him another season and saw him leave for free.

ramos would be a nightmare
would get wound up so much be a liability my view
unless the refs turned a blind eye lol

We would end up with a back 3 again lol

he he better get used to it if he arrives
de gea biggest loss

Ramos is exactly what we need in the system Van Gaal plays, it's very smart what he's doing. He's setting us up so that the centre half come out with the ball and attack the opposing midfield and that leaves us exposed... Back 3. But with Carrick and Schweinsteiger they will naturally step and cover. Massively lacked that last season and that's what made us appear slow... Unbalanced was the managers words.
I'd take Ramos in a heartbeat though, despite him being a bit of a c..t

Ramos has had 14 reds in 11 seasons at Real, 9 of those for a second yellow, was not sent off at all last year so maybe getting older and wiser!

t seems as though Manchester United's pursuit of Sergio Ramos is over as, according to Marca, the defender has signed a new contract with Real Madrid.

Ramos had been strongly linked with United but apparently he has now put pen to paper on a deal with Real until 2020.

It's back on apparently lol
