have been smoking for about 7 years now and have decided that i need to give up, its just i am not as fit as i usto be, have any of ye guys gave up befor with will power of have you used the patches? i just think its a waste of time going down the docs and asking for a few patches of even buy some, just dont see the point, or shall i go with the patches?? so i am going to smoke what i got and then go from there think its going to be hard at first but think ill eventually do it, well i hope :)

don't replace it with someone else (patches) - just stop. i smoked from 18 thru till 35 and stopped. Busta's right, it's about being in the right frame of mind, being able to walk away and do something else.

i just used will power, stopped 2 years ago, never smoked since and can even be around other smokers, doesn't bother me

did you guys feel better when you had gave up for a few weeks/months?

fb.

Cold turkey for me smoked for over 20 odd years was on 20/30 a day. Made my mind up and stopped. No patches or nicotine subs used. I did go onto ordinary chewing gum and became addicted to that lol. Now i cant stand either. Good luck m8. Make sure you are in the right frame of mind before you give up. I pysched myself up for 3 or 4 months and by the time i got to my target date i was ready. First 2 days were hell then it got gradualy easier. Avoided the pub and socialising for a few weeks as well that may be a crucial part of my success.

If I remember rightly, I got a bit of a shitty cold (as my body cleared the sh*te out of my system) about a month down the line, but after that I was fine.

My main problem was finding something else to do with my fingers, I now drum my fingers alot (gets on the wifes tits sometimes ;))

I tried that but the wife wouldnt let me lol.

@ Fireblade2 I felt better after a week or so and felt proud of my acheivement. One thing i did notice almost right away was my taste and smell improved.
I think if you can set your mind to hate cirgarete smoke your are most ways there. I still hate it but we are fortunate now that its banned almost everywhere :)

Heres another real incentive.
If someone said heres a weeks all inclusive Sunny holiday abroad and its free. You would bite their hand off.

You have that within your grasp m8. Smoking 20 a day cost £2000 + per year.
Quitting Pays for your free holiday. ( Every year for life :) )

Personally, i expected a massive difference in health - but didn't notice anything at all!

i was just glad not to stink and wasting £35 on tabs

I've stopped ( well at the moment I have ), will power only. Smoked for @35 years, roll ups since I was 16, Fags before that. Averaged anywhere between 30/50 day.

Lungs are totally shot. Cant even walk up the stairs for a pish without being out of breath and having to stop. On tablets and inhalers but they aint helping much

Give up however you can. but do it Mate. try without the tablets 1st and if you feel you need help then ask for it at the docs. be prepared to put on weight also.

Good Luck

To be honest my health was better when I smoked, but I did have chemo shortly after giving them up,
My asthma has returned worse then it was when I was a kid and I get out of breath much easier now,

I sometimes wonder if I would be better starting smoking again but I would then be afraid it would make it worse lol

To be honest I think it was just bad timing with me and I don't miss them at all

Sorry if that's put you off but it helps to get all angles on things

I just stopped New Year's Day 2008, had last rollup just before midnight last day of 2007 and haven't looked back. Thought about 'em a few times, but never gave in. Even when having a beer session at a m8's who smokes all the time. I could even sit right next to him at his PC after a few weeks and it never bothered me, expect when smoke went in my eye. I was in no way tempted, I put it down to this time wanting to stop. Other times, I gave up and restarted maybe a year later or so, but this time it's for keeps as I suspect it was SWMBO's constant harping on about the smell and how it's bad for me etc (she who must be obeyed).

I started at 24 years old in 1990, by far the stupidest decision I have ever made.

Well done to all those folks who have stopped and good luck to those who are still trying, when you're ready you'll stop.

Meant to say, no stop smoking aids, just willpower and a bit of cold turkey.

do whatever it takes mate,my mum has lung cancer and found out today it is incurable(dont want any sorry to hear that posts)

Thats bad news Bro sorry to hear that and kudos to you for posting it in here.

Smoking is a fooking pain, costing too much money atm, as bro said give up anyway you can, be good to add e-cig to the poll?, i still don't like the government dictating what people do with their life's don't agree with that at all.

cheers guys,,,, but lets keep to the original posters thread eh,dont want to hijack it :)
