Just to put a lighter side to the forum. A few m8s and myself were talking about this yesterday so I just thought I would ask.

What is your earliest memory of going to the Pictures.

The earliest I can recall is going almost every Saturday and usually to watch Flash Gordon and I also remember The Jungle book.

Great thread jaffa!

The earliest memory I have of going to the cinema was going to see E.T. with my grandparents :)

Saturday morning ABC minors. Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers etc.

Happy days! :)

the 1st home alone movie... bloody awesome! :proud:

Nara do you ever remember popcorn, revels etc back then, none of my m8s and myself had any recollection of all that, just going to the Pictures.

Saturday morning show in the mid 1970's :)

The three major cinemas in Dundee (ABC, Odean & Victoria) all done it for the kids. Me & my sister got put in while my mum and dad went shopping. From memory there was a few cartoons then a flick, I can remember Black Beauty, it must have been a re-run though as that was released in 1971. I was only 3 in 1971 :)

my proudest moment. the very first film i ever saw was Star Wars. it was on it's 2nd time around in the cinemas (back in the good old days, it would come back around 6 - 9 months later) my dad took me and my best friend Lee to the Lounge in Headingly in '78.

can't remember much, i was 6, the excitement of my dad just taking me and my bud out, seemed dead special as he never often did stuff like that - and when you're a kid taking you best mate somewhere is always awesome. Remember queuing, looking at the other posters in the lobby ...

remember those bits clear as a bell but seen the film so many times now, i can't remember my actual impression of the film at the time.

Saturday mornings, the usual cartoons, some sing along thing, then a episode of (my memory is not 100% here) a guy who would say the words shezam and he would change into a super hero and could fly, then some film and all for 5p yeah happy days..

That's an excellent Feeder song lol ;).....That and Seven Days In The Sun (Gran Turismo3 - happy days!) And yes that was a joke nara I do know what Buck Rogers was.

My earliest cinema memory was either the original Jurassic Park (awesome at the flicks - the Rex scene in the cinema holy ****!) or Batman Returns whichever came out first. Either way both around same time period of early 90's which would have made me about 7-9 years old at the time.

Speaking of Batman Returns though I watched it the other night on Sky HD and you can straight tell that's a Tim Burton movie!

It was either Mary Poppins or A Hard days night.

At the Stafford Odeon 1964

Went with Dad to watch Mary and with mate to watch Hard Days Night

My first taste of Kiora Orange

towering inferno and the man with the goldern gun for me , my gran took me , lol

must admit this post is making me feel rather old, some of the movies in the posts i remember taking my kids to...lol..

also when i was only about 14 or so there was a cinema you could get into the 18 rated movies no problem and at that time you used to get 2 movies in one sitting with interval...oh happy days!

also remember going to see scum and quadrophenia as a double bill

Bed knobs and broomsticks with my Nan and brother in Liverpool must have been about 6 or 7 ha happy days, next one i remember was Popeye with Robin Williams, lol.

The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad in an Edinburgh cinema. I can't remember which one, it was 36/37 years ago.

I remember going to the pictures on a saturday morning in the mid 70's and watching flash gordon and some dreadfull old 50's films. the flying eye comes to mind.

I can't remember popcorn or revels but I seem to remember raisin poppets being the projectile of choice.

I think some Cinema's do O.A.P tickets...pmsl.

From the responses to this thread it seems that the Cinema holds great memories for us when we were young.

When I was about 13 my m8 went to see Grease about 20 times, ended up he got the nickname Frenchy and still to this day we call him that.

When I first came to the States, prior to moving to MD, we lived in NYC. Every Sunday while others went to mass, my Dad took me to The Deuce (42nd St); the real Deuce, not that disney-fied bullshit as it is now. That was our church; I genuflected in front of the screen. Earliest recollection was Burt Reynolds in "Shamus". Now that I think about it, I miss the movie stills depicting scenes from the movie that the cinemas used to have on display.

Same as nara and sempi for me . Saturday morning, 2 flics , sing alongs ,Buck Rogers etc. We used to chip in for one of us to go in , then he would go to the loo and open the emergency exit and the rest of us would come in one at a time lol, Oh and popcorn and icecream at the interval
