We all say some silly things now and then.
I just caught your redneck comment. You can't leave it alone eh? What is so wrong with calling you a redneck? Your comments do sound like they are made by an uneducated farmer from from the 'ol deep south. Where's the racism in that?
I can define racism for you by quoting your comments in the context of this thread which is about Sikhs. Do you want to go down that road? Wiping shit with a turban is pretty darn racist from where I am reading this. Take my advice leave it alone, you said some silly things and we should leave it at that.
Never had a problem with Sikhs as I have already said. And judging by your presence on here you are a cool guy. Sikh's have been and still are a great asset to the country. My stepfather in-law is Indian (he is an atheist too), and we have had many chats regarding the relationship between England and India. The Sikh's have been some of the most loyal contributors to this nation, and I applaud them.
However, if you do not see the comparison with calling somebody a redneck (a pejorative term implying a white racist farmer from the south, with little education, and a predilection for incest), to your interpretation of my statement you are being disingenuous.
Lets talk about context. My statement, as I have already clarifies, was not about the Sikh Religion, but about denuding the turban as an item of clothing that deserves more respect than say a pair of jeans. In public life you have to make compromises.
Now, I did it in a manner that was bound to offend I see that, and have apologised, even if I do not take the philosophical intent back. As I get older, I do the profane thing less and less to be honest, as there is really enough shit in the world, without me adding to it, by being facetious.
To illustrate where I am coming from I use the example from 'Brass Eye'. The episode drugs, where Chris Morris stands facing the camera and explains why its ok for middle class people to take heroin
'but what about poor people, people less educated, like builders, or blacks...'
Is this racist?
I would argue not, because the context belies the fact that it is cultural satire, not a racist diatribe. For the same reason, re-read my post. Was I being flippant or tyrannical? As I hope you can see, I was being sarcastic to illustrate a point. I upset you, and mate (if I may) I am sorry.
Still, I would be offended if some lazy prick used my Religion and all that I hold dear, to try and screw the system for a few quid. Is that not the lowest? Is that not blasphemy? As you have said, you have compromised to integrate into this melting pot of ours. Why couldn't he have done the same?
