Right I want to watch movies on the PC through the dreambox.

I just cant seem to get a folder mounted I followed the guide for the streaming MP3s

I dont get the sharing screen that he has. I am also using Vista, I know everyone says use the search feature which I do but there is no good answers just patchy bits and bobs.

PLease help me somebody im gettin desperate !!!!

Cheers guys

The webinterface is not enabled by default on some images. I'm not near my box right now, but off the top of my head, you need to press the blue button (or yellow) and go to something along the lines of Daemon control, where it can be enabled.

Watching movies from Dreambox to PC has nothing to do with the mount, though. This should work once you get the webinterface running. Maybe. Streaming video can be a bit of an ordeal for many people.

Ok cheers got the webinterface

what do I set up to watch movies on dreambox through there

what VLC client do Iinstall
?

I'm using a patched VLC 0.8.6. I'm not sure if this image actually has the new VLC functionality, in which case any new, unpatched version of VLC should work. I'm using the Dbox2 method of launching VLC from a shortcut with --extraintf=http --sout-transcode-fps 25 added to the shortcut target. Works just fine. You can read PT-1's Dbox2 helpfile for all the setup details, as well as patching, if necessary.

im preety sure web interface is only available with enigma images are you using neutrino

Web interface is available on all images. It's disabled by default on cryo neutrino images as it saves memory if not being used. For the regular tv viewer it's not need so might make the box more stable.

ok, let's get back to basics, then.

Just for testing purposes, I would suggest that if you have a router, you disconnect it for now and connect directly to a network card in your PC with a crossover cable, not a regular network cable.

You also want to make sure all firewalls and anti-virus apps are disabled.

If we can get it to work without router and firewalls, we can hopefully begin to narrow down what's causing the problem.

Did you say you had the mount working at one stage, and that write permission was the only issue? If so, you have remembered to change the RO part of the mount settings to RW, right?

Have you set up a new user on the PC, or are you trying to connect with Admin logins? I have had problems with this in the past myself and created a user called Dbox2, which is the same one I now use for my Dreambox.

Cheers mate,

No I have never got the mount succesfull I thought I had but I had not. yes I have it as rw not ro. I havent done the admin thing as I have disabled in Vista it requiring a password and username to access shared folders,,,,, That should still work right?

That might be your problem, then. I think you need both a login and pass for it to work, as this is required by the CIF protocol or somesuch, even if Windows itself doesn't.

If you're setting up a user account on the PC, you specify whichever name and pass you want, and then enter those details into the dreambox's mount settings.

this is what I have so far. I have added Dreambox and password dreambox to the share permissions on C:\dreambox.

On the dreambox:
Type - Cifs
Server IP - 192.168.1.2 (My Pc)
Directory/share - dreambox
Local Directory- /hdd
Mount on startup - NO
Mount Options - rw,soft,udp,nolock
Mount Options - "standard"
Username - Dreambox
Password - dreambox
Mac address - not sure if you need this
Mount now

Anything you can see needs changing?

Three things:

Point local directory to mnt/movies not hdd/ I seem to remember that folder is write protected and can't be used. It should work if you put a folder called movies inside the shared folder on your PC, but let's just play it safe for now.

Change the shared folder on your PC to movies. It might not make a difference, but I have heard people had problems with this as well, so better safe than sorry.

Set Mount ay Startup to YES.

And just in case, my MAC address uses this: 11:22:33:44:55:66

Also, what's the IP of your Dreambox? It can't be the same as the PC. If your PC is 192.168.1.2, make the box 192.168.1.3.

wooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooo It worked what a star you are mate

Recorded to my pc!! Only problem I have is after the short clip played it went black and I couldnt get back on to the cable tv any ideas?
