Hi I just got my serial number & mac address from the boot page, when I power ON (holding I/O button).
They didn't match the numbers on the lable stuck to the bottom of the unit. CLONE I'm thinking.
I've got it connected to PC via (USB to mini-USB serial COM3 port) and by (LAN) to my router. Do I need a ssl... bootloader?
Which is the best image to use?

You need to determine what sim type you have.

Best way is to take the lid off and look at the sim and describe it to us.
 
Thanks for the reply, my SIM card reads... DM500HD 12514 SIM210 M. After a failed flash or two my boot info page reads (Product name DM500HD / Bootloader version 83(2011-03-01) / Flash size 64Mb / Production date 2012-10-08 / mID 14 / Serial number ***** / Mac Address **;**;**;**;**;** / Printed serial number CA0814110032477. You have a Sim2 sim. Make sure any images you install are for Sim 2.
Your bootloader is 83. Most images are now using 84D bootoader. Easy enough to flash.

I would flash the 84d ssl and then OpenATV 4.2 patched by gstroom
