i currently use a superhub 2 and i am none too pleased with the wifi coverage..

it drops out too much..
sick of the lad screaming blue murder when he looses connection and gets kicked from xbox live...

i've been thinking of putting the hub into modem mode and using a better router, but i dunno what i should get...

i kind of like the look of this one:

Code:

question is: am i going the right way about this and would this router perform any better?

just looking for some pointers :)

yes it will perform better and wont drop out but if its for gaming better off with homeplugs more stable connection

I would also recommend Powerline adaptord for a solid connection, but a better connection is Ethernet direct from Hub to Xbox

On the Superhub, there 2 freq 2.4GHz and 5Ghz. are you able to pick up 5Ghz on the Xbox live?, if so have you tested this?

i swtiched off the 5ghz signal as none of the devices picked it up.

sort of after a good wireless signal due to the smart phones and kids streaming to ipads.

its only a smalll flat, really disappointing that the sooper dooper hub cant hack it...

In these scenarios I use homeplugs, either wired or as wireless extender. I don't think changing the router will make much difference. Switching off the 5gb was a good move as, although it's faster, the range is lower and newer devices favour it. So, they'll connect to a weak 5gb rather than a stronger 2.4Gb. Stupid IMHO.

Plently of decent homeplugs that do wireless extending such as Linksys etc.

I binned my HH cos I didn't like how restrictive it was. I opted for an old E1000 and put ddwrt on it but over the years the wifi became very temperamental. I've recently got a WDR3600 and love it. Dual band (2.4ghz and 5ghz) so it satisfies all the devices in the house for speed.
