zapping or zap

Hi properly the daftest question but being totally new to dreambox and set it up reading from this forum i need to learn so much stuff and hey we have to start somewhere...
What is zapping or on the epg in crossepg the red button says zap..can some please explain this or point me to a tutorial about it.
