what gadgets are available to stream avi films from the computer to the tv

hi mate...
there is loads of stuff out there to do it..
i use my ps3 at the moment...or my Dbox2 , they both do just what i need..

other things you could use are media servers, there are loads to choose from...
the best being IMO is popcorn

if your looking for a cheap option, then get an old xbox 1 an softmod it then install xbmc, it will play most things you throw at it apart from hd,
but it will upscale to 720 with the right leads.

yeah Ps3 media server for mac works just as well on a mac.

it has played everything i have chucked at it even streaming blu-ray iso's from my mac

I've been using XBMC on the old Xbox for years but have just started to watch HD content, which the Xbox can't handle. Most downloads are in mkv format and have to be converted for the 360, so that's been a pain.

Yesterday I bought one of these:

If a file has DTS audio only you need a DTS decoder or you'll hear nothing.
