What car would you buy for £9k?

Why not try the Hyundai I30 1.6 crdi, you should be able to pick up a 1 year old for that money. Four year manufacturers warranty left. There is a new model due in march so expect prices to fall on the forecourts around april/may.

I took your advice about 5 year ago mate and bought a Toyota Carisma 2.0 diesel I only paid £600 for it and I ran the arse of it for 2 year without changing the oil are touching a thing, I still see it outside Asda sometimes now 5 year on its still running had over 100k on the clock when I bought it.

Happy Days I then paid 7 grand for a L200 warrior which costs nowt but money should have kept the Carisma )

Buy a VAG group Diesel...if your going to do your own services basics parts are cheap use Euro Car parts, GSF or TPS for original VAG parts. Oil and filter change with genuine filter and long life oil under 30 quid from TPS. If you use a good indy and supply them parts then even major service like cambelt, water pump changes are not that expensive.

Toyotas been mentioned a couple of times...problem with those is they got no street cred and styling is lame... Much more street cred driving German... even Seat or Skoda if you want VAG running gear at a lower price than VW or Audi marques...

Driving a Toyota Avensis gives you as much street cred as a Bradford Taxi Driver...not a good look ... lol

Although these are good cars they cost a fortune in spares if anything breaks. I have just changed the wiper linkage on a 5 series it was a complete nightmare. For a start you need specialist pullers/tools just to get the wiper arm bush off because they are so close to the windscreen any form of leverage would/will break the glass. So think carefully on this one. Sorry The Dentist I am just stating the facts.

Seem to hear the same experience from all the BMW owners at work. Great while they are working but nightmare if they go wrong.

Spot on oneman did you know there are loads of different types of pullers for these cars. Before you even attempt this job you need the make, model and chassis number of your vehicle so they can give you the correct tool. If you get it wrong you will pay the price. Its only a ball and socket wiper linkage I wanted to change not a new engine.:(

miggy that was tongue in cheek lol. i know how expensive they are to own, although my 5 series has been a gem! the only thing thats gone wrong for me is the windscreen squirter thing. I just got the whole system replaced this week as the water wasnt coming out.
but god they are good to drive and wouldnt swap it. it is the 7 series that will be next tho :)
