Virus warning

Hi Guys, I was happily surfing last week when I got "led" to a site called "glowbaldescrambler".
It contains a JS.Seeker.F.virus which mucks up your browser home page. It was quite crafty, it wouldn't allow me to delete it,or quarentine it- only repair it (using Norton anti-virus).
The damn thing still changed the home page to redirect back to the "globaldescrambler" web page, and added a folder in my favourites folder. I deleted all these files and any that had changed on my system during the time I came across this virus. The other worrying thing was that it had "excluded" itself along with word2000,& excel from being scanned in the anti-virus programme. I'll admit that could have been down to me as I panicked when the screen alarm went off.(ok I'll admit it I'm a virus virgin) The other thing that worries me is that my Norton firewall has not picked up any scan alerts since and there is a file appeared called "iamalert" which looking into its properties is connected to the firewall.
Do you think my system is ok, or should I reformat and start again?
