Well done Virgin and thank you!

I still pay them for my phone ;)

** Kids watch their TV, it's garbage, I prefer SKY.

Just to make sure.

987 kilobits or kilobytes a second?

If its bytes then your speed is correct.

10mbps = 1000 KiloBytes

I am on 20meg and I get 2000 KiloBytes (Kbps)

Thinking about it more, I think I am right, and you are unfortunately complaining about nothing.

when you say youare on '10meg' I think you are under the illusion that you are paying for ten megaBYTES per second.

You are not. You are paying for ten megabit.

Go to www.speedtest.net and perform a test. Look a the speed dial, and you will notice the measurments are in bits not bytes. If your dial is hitting '10m' and you are getting your 10meg.

Remember, 8 bits in a byte.

I think your wrong unless u r talking about downloading a file and u acheive 1000kb u r on 10mb but if u talking about doing a line test and it is showing 1000kb u r on 1mb

For 10mb it should be showing 10000kbps from a line test

Do you know the difference between bits and bytes?

If he is getting 987 Kilo Bytes per second his speed is correct. 987 times 8 = 7896 kbps (Kilobits per second)

If he is getting 987 Kilo Bits per second then his speed is incorrect. 987 divided by 8 = 123 kbps (Kilobytes per second)

Remember, 10mb - 10 megabits per second, not bytes.

Rereading your post I can see we are on the same wavelength.

That is exactly what I meant.

remember the possibility of having to subtract around 20% for overheads.

No need to email the main man. A mate of mine regularly rings up their customer service and rants to them about not getting the speed that he pays for and then threatens to leave VM. They then either offer him a refund or 'free months' - at the moment, they are paying him to be a customer!
I, on the other hand, prefer the soldering iron option to ensure that I get the fastest broadband possible......

First of all retest your line speed at www.speedtest.net. mozr is actually correct. It's a common mistake to get confused between the bit and bytes terminology units.

After you've tested the speed, if it's much lower than 10Mbit/Mb (1.25Mbyte/MB, 1280Kbyte/kB), than send your complaint to the following addresses.(btw some may not be working/changed.)

Neil Berkett(Chief Executive Officer, Director)
Tel: +44 1256 754554
Fax: +44 1256 754501
[email protected]

You won't have much luck with the following emails as they are "nobodies", but it's worth a try.

[email protected]

[email protected]

[email protected] Tel: +44 1256 753734

Hope this helps.
