I have been given a PSP1003 to look at by my nephew. It will not read or boot up with a UMD disc in.

I have looked at it and I can not see any movement in the disc drive and the laser does not light up.

He was quoted £50 to replace the drive. Is it the drive at fault, is £50 to much and he does not have the money is there better was for him to get it back up and running?

His Firmware is at V2.80.

Fancy a mod not knowing the downloads are closed :salute:

try this mate: >>2.80 downgrader<<

follow the "read me" file that comes with it ;)

I got the PSP down to v1.5, very simple with the correct tools and instructions.

The next question is were now? what upgrades do I put back in?

First you need to update to 3.52 M33-4

do it using calo's easy installer: >>calo's 3.52 M33 easy installer<<

you will need the "3.52 M33 Custom Firmware Full Install
Installer\Extractor for installing from 1.50"

then apply the "3.52 M33 Custom Firmware Update 4"

when at 3.52 M33-4 you can update to any M33 firmware

im on 4.01 M33-2 and works fine.
you can get all other easy installers in stallones master thread (as calo hasnt made a 4.01 easy installer yet) : >>stallones master thread<<

just follow the "read me" files that come with the installers.
format the memory stick between updates and make sure you battery is 78+ charged and you keep the mains adaptor plugged in.

I have managed to get to V3.52 m33-4, with no issues, I was going for 4.01 m33, but on the read me it wants me to confirm I have Kernel Mode set to 3.xx.

Is this the firmware version or something else?

the kernel mode is so you can switch between the 1.50 kernel and 3.xx kernel.
this allows you to play homebrew which needs firmware 1.5

by default it should be set to 3.xx but if you want to make sure....
turn your PSP fully off by holding the off switch up for 3 seconds.
then hold the R trigger and turn it back on to enter the recovery menu.
goto configuration and check the "Game folder homebrew" is set to 3.52

the 4.01 M33 installer doesnt install the 1.50 kernel.
so once updated to 4.01 M33-2 install the 1.50 kernel addon from stallones master thread.

glad to see ur on the job larry

thanks john......but......

you should really stop looking through my bedroom window :FLASHER:

I used the updates from above, I think I have bricked t he unit. going from 3.52 to 4.01, I was told to press x to change some values and then continue, about 90% the upgrade faild with a hex value (mostle F's). Now I can not get it to power on.

Any Ideas?

ok take battery out to make sure its completely off
now put it back in and switch on while holding the right trigger button
and see it u get into recovery menu.
links above are fine used many times
