McCARTHY PLANNING IKEME LOAN

Any news about Wolves transfers?

MickMcCarthy_217921.jpg

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is planning to send goalkeeper Carl Ikeme out on loan next season.

The 20-year-old is currently undergoing rehabilitation following knee surgery and has made only three senior appearances for the Black Country club.

And McCarthy is concerned Ikeme's lack of first-team experience could prove a major disadvantage should he be called upon next season.

McCarthy, who saw first-choice goalkeeper Matt Murray laid low by a shoulder fracture before the play-off defeat to West Brom, said: "It would be nice to have three fit goalkeepers.

"When it comes to loans, it might be worth sending Carl out if the opportunity arises because he has not had much football.

"It is always good to get goalkeepers out on loan if you can because even reserve-team football does not compare."

CHELSKI DONE SPENDING...SO LAMPARD'S OFF TO JUVE
As it says elsewhere on this site, Roman Abramovich has reportedly told Chelski he will no longer spend his billions on the club.

The Russian owner has, according to The Sun, decided that he no longer wants to be a key decision maker and believes the club should operate as a proper business - meaning they will have to generate their own transfer budget like most other clubs.

Abramovich has also insisted on a wage cap - meaning no new bumper deals for John Terry and Frank Lampard. And that means Lampard could be heading off to the continent.

'Italian giants Juventus are leading the chase for Lampard after his contract negotiations with Chelsea reached deadlock' says the Daily Mirror.

'The England midfielder can leave Stamford Bridge this summer for a cut-price £9million under new FIFA rules.

'Lampard and his advisers want parity with Chelsea's top earners Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko, who are on £121,000 per week.

'Blues lynchpin Lampard, who is on £95,000 per week, made it clear after the FA Cup Final win over Manchester United that he wants to pledge the rest of his career to Chelsea - but the club are refusing to increase their offer.'

Chelski themselves are hoping to bring in three new players in the summer, but won't splash the cash on transfer fees as they have in the past.

Steve Sidwell has already joined on a free transfer from Reading with Claudio Pizarro of Bayern Munich set to do likewise, while Brazilian defender Alex will join from PSV in July for a fee of one dollar.

HEINZE CLOSE TO MADRID MOVE
Gabriel Heinze is reportedly close to joining Spanish giants Real Madrid.

According to The Sun, the Argentina World Cup star flew to the Spanish capital on Saturday to discuss the move.

And Real chiefs are convinced they will make him one of their summer signings.

They want him to replace Roberto Carlos, who is being released after 10 years at the Bernabeu.

Heinze said: "I am convinced that if a good offer arrives then Manchester United will let me go."

POOL STRIKERS BEG TO STAY
Craig Bellamy, linked with a move to Aston Villa over the weekend, and Peter Crouch, likewise with Newcastle, both insist their future lies with Liverpool.

But the Gossip Column reckons that, if Rafa gets the cash he wants, they'll be told to do one.

SPURS IN DANGER OF GETTING GOOD
They've signed a decent left back for the first time since...erm...have Spurs ever had a good left back?

They insist they're hanging on to Dimitar Berbatov.

And now they're apparently favourites to sign Portuguese wonder-kid Nani.

'Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Damien Commoli will meet with Sporting Lisbon this week to try and beat United to sign 20-year-old Nani.

'The player has been a target for United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who believes he could develop into the next Cristiano Ronaldo.

'But now it is Martin Jol and bigspending Spurs who have stolen a march on United as they look to follow up the £10m signing of Southampton left-back Gareth Bale, 17, with a swoop for Nani and Charlton's £10m-rated striker Darren Bent.'

Reds Land Young Hungarian Pair

RafaelBenitez_225602.jpg

Liverpool have agreed a deal to bring two promising Hungarian youngsters to Anfield.

Krisztian Nemeth, 18, and 17-year-old Andras Simon, who both starred for their country in last year's UEFA Under-17 championships, will move to Merseyside from MTK Hungaria.

Both players are strikers, although Nemeth can also drop into midifeld, and the pair will be added to the Reds' reserve squad for next season.

no picture or info on there rating as yet but Benitez wont buy them just for the reserve squad these two can pair up.

BERBATOV 'WILL' STAY...BUT DEFOE COULD LEAVE
Tottenham fans, prepare to get very excited...The Daily Mirror's back page exclusive this Tuesday morning is that 'Dimitar Berbatov will sign a new Spurs contract within the next fortnight after strike partner Robbie Keane penned a fresh £10million deal yesterday'.

Note the 'will'. Not 'is poised to' or 'is set to', but 'will'. Start the two-week stopclock now.

To read more about Robbie Keane's bumper new deal, click here.

But could Jermain Defoe be off to Newcastle? The Daily Mail says that 'Sam Allardyce will make a move for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe if Michael Owen quits Tyneside.

'The Magpies manager will give Defoe the stage he needs to press his international claims and can offer him the regular first-team football he lacks at White Hart Lane.'

REO-COKER THINKS HE'S BETTER THAN HE IS
Nigel Reo-Coker believes he is good enough to play for either ManYoo or Arsenal - a point of view somewhat at odds with his performances last season for West Ham.

The Guardian says that the want-away midfielder 'is fending off interest from Tottenham to hold out for the possibility of a move to Arsenal or Manchester United' and, just in case that wasn't clear enough, he 'appears to have set his sights on moving to a club in the Champions League'.
Oh, and £9m if you were wondering.

A MAN NAMED DEREK FOR TOON
The Independent believes that Derek Boateng will be Sam Allardyce's first signing at Newcastle.

Despite his name sounding like a character out of only Fools and Horses, Boateng is a 24-year-old midfielder from Ghana. 'Although the transfer fee is thought to be less than £1m, Boateng has had an outstanding season at Beitar, having moved there last summer when he signed a three-year contract. He had previously played in Greece and Sweden and represented Ghana in last summer's World Cup,' the Indy reports.

It also claims that 'Newcastle are also aware of West Ham United's strong interest in buying Scott Parker, who has failed to settle in the north-east and, according to sources, the club is prepared to let their captain go if they receive an acceptable bid. Newcastle want at least £7m for Parker.'

Meanwhile, Fat Sam is close to making Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim his first signing on Tyneside, according to the Daily Mirror.

MALOUDA FOR LIVERPOOL
The Independent also reckons that Liverpool are interested in signing Florent Malouda - without quite going as far to state that the Reds will definitely bid for the France international. Instead, the player 'has emerged as a test of Liverpool's transfer resolve this summer with Rafael Benitez hoping to beat a host of leading European clubs to the £10m-rated Lyon midfielder'.

Rafa has publicly called on the club to get their act together in the transfer market and a move for the in-demand Malouda, who is believed to want to leave the French champs, 'would represent a statement of intent from the Americans - far more effectively than their public assurances have done - if they can conclude a deal in the face of intense competition for the Lyon winger.'

CROUCH VOWS HE IS STAYING
Just a day after suggesting that he would be allowed to leave Liverpool for Newcastle, The Times reports that 'Peter Crouch has been reassured about his Liverpool future by Rafael Benítez.'

"He's [Benítez] told me I'm part of his plans and that's good enough for me," Crouch is quoted as saying. "At a club like Liverpool, there's going to be competition for places, especially as the manager likes to chop and change."
It's difficult to know if these are either exclusive or fresh quotes, but Mediawatch has filed them away for future use regardless.

The Daily Telegraph carries the interesting little nugget that Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have gone over Rafa's head and asked George Gillett to bring Michael Owen back from Newcastle United this summer.

The paper says Gillett is keen but Benitez is less enthusiastic and 'any deal is unlikely'.

BORO DESPERATE TO SIGN A THUG
If Middlesbrough can't sign Joey Barton, says the Daily Mirror, they'll move for the only man in the Premiership who can compete with him in the thuggery stakes - Fulham's Michael Brown.

And if they can't land the man who headbutts or ankle-snaps someone every time the Gossip Column watches a Fulham game, they'll presumably try to bring in Mike Tyson.

HEINZE MEANS BUSINESS
The Gabriel Heinze to Real Madrid story just won't go away.

After the Argentinian was quoted yesterday as saying he was "sure" ManYoo would accept a good offer for him, the Daily Express thinks he's going to save them the bother.

They claim the left back will become the first high-profile player to take advantage of the very dodgy, very unclear law that allows a player to buy himself out his contract.

Heinze would have to pay United about £4million to secure his release.

SANCHEZ UNSURPRISINGLY LINKED WITH EVERY NORN IRISH PLAYER
The Daily Star reckons David Healy will join Fulham this week after the Premiership club agreed to pay Leeds £1m for the Norn Iron striker.

It's just the latest in a long line of Norn Irish players Sanchez has been linked to since taking the post. This weekend also saw rumours of a move for Aaron Hughes, who lost his place in the Aston Villa side to the on-loan Phil Bardsley in January and is expected to find himself behind a new right back in the Villa Park pecking order this summer.

The Dark Clouds Look Great From Indoors Gossip

VILLA AND MALOUDA FOR LIVERPOOL, KEWELL COULD STAY
Whilst the rest of Fleet Street maintains that Liverpool are currently pursuing Lyon midfielder Florent Malouda, The Sun has assured its readers that 'Rafa Benitez wants to make £12million Valencia winger David Silva his first signing in a big summer shake-up'.

What's more, the paper reckons that Benitez has already 'made contact' with his former employers and 'Benitez hopes to rush through a deal'.

Convinced? No, nor are we.

Talk of Malouda is everywhere else, with The Guardian saying the midfielder is 'edging closer to an £8m switch to Anfield'. The newspaper also names Villa as a target for Benitez, along with 'Simao Sabrosa of Benfica, Carlos Tevez at West Ham, Roma's Alessandro Mancini'.

Liverpool fans may find less comfort in The Times, which announces that 'Harry Kewell intends to fight for his place at Liverpool'. Aston Villa are thought to be considering a double bid for Kewell and Craig Bellamy, and Kewell's hopes of staying at Anfield, even in the event of Boudewijn Zenden and Mark González departing, may be dashed by Malouda's arrival.

PARKER OUT, BARTON IN AT TOON
Scott Parker is apparently homesick for London town so he could be heading to West Ham in an £8m move, says the Daily Mirror, presumably replacing the too-big-for-his-boots Hammer Nigel Reo-Coker. Replacing Parker at Newcastle will be the trouble that is Joey Barton, who should have the time of his life on Quayside.

RANIERI HOLDS CITEH TALKS
'Claudio Ranieri held talks in London on Tuesday with representatives of the consortium trying to buy Manchester City,' is the noteworthy news in The Daily Mail.

The Italian was in London yesterday and told The Times: "Next week I will choose my future."

The former Chelski boss said earlier this week that he "would like to remain" with Parma, but, along with the Mail, The Times says 'the likelihood [is] that the 54-year-old will resign from his position at Parma in the next seven days with a view to accepting the City job in succession to Stuart Pearce.'

JAGIELKA TO RETURN TO EVERTON AS AN OLD MAN
Another player edging ever closer to a move is Phil Jagielka.

The Sheffield United midfielder/defender has reportedly told the Blades that he wants to leave so that he can prolong his stay in the Premiership. 'The Manchester-born 24-year-old has a £4m release clause in his contract which Everton will now trigger as David Moyes begins planning for a Uefa Cup campaign,' reports The Guardian.

'Moyes is confident of deflecting tentative interest from Newcastle and Aston Villa to secure the player's services, with the defensive recruit, who can also play in midfield, the prelude to a busy summer in the market.'

Jagielka, incidentally, was once on the books of Everton as a schoolboy. Hence the headline.

WIGAN GET REALLY, REALLY EXCITING
Exciting times for Wigan as they begin rebuilding for next season by signing...erm, Sami Hyypia.

Despite the Finn now moving slightly slower than a Skoda, The Independent says: 'The Anfield veteran is high on Hutchings' transfer agenda at the JJB Stadium, where the former club captain Arjen de Zeeuw has been released and his fellow centre-half, Matt Jackson, rejected a one-year extension in favour of a two-year deal with the relegated Watford, but it will require a lucrative package to persuade the 33-year-old to join a side that narrowly avoided relegation last season.

'Sam Allardyce is believed to be interested in the defender as a short-term measure at Newcastle United, Fulham have made enquiries and Liverpool are keen for Hyypia to remain as cover for another year. However, Wigan can offer the temptation of a longer, wealthier deal and boast an obvious geographical advantage in their pursuit.'

Surely Hyypia will be given an idea of just how dismal a place Wigan is when the Latics offer him twice as much money for twice as long as everyone else?

AND THE REST
Jason Koumas could lead a player exodus from West Brom after their Championship play-off failure. Sami Hyypia insists he has no plans to leave Liverpool despite speculation linking him with a summer move.
And the Finnish defender says he has been assured of his future at the club by boss Rafa Benitez.

"Rafa said, 'We are happy with you and you are not for sale.' I will go back to Liverpool in July for pre-season training,” said Hyypia.

"Next season will be my ninth in Liverpool and I still have one year left on my current contract."

Hyypia is currently back in his homeland preparing for Euro 2008 qualifiers against Serbia and Belgium.

The `And It`s Not Even June` Gossip

31 May

UNITED SPLASH CASH TO STAY AHEAD
Sir Alex Ferguson has embarked on a £40million retail therapy mission to make up for the disappointment of Manchester United's FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

Eager to ensure United have their best possible chance of defending their Barclays Premiership title, Ferguson has already virtually sealed a deal to get Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich.

And late on Wednesday night, the Red Devils confirmed brilliant young duo Anderson and Nani would also be part of their squad next season.

The double signing is a major coup for the Old Trafford outfit as most of Europe's top clubs, including Real Madrid and Chelsea, have been linked with at least one of their new faces at some point over the last few months.

Nineteen-year-old Anderson is already viewed as one of the top young talents in the world.

The Porto midfielder was crowned player of the tournament at the 2005 Under-17 World Championships and is part of Brazil's squad for this summer's Copa America, a remarkable elevation even if the Samba stars' main men, Ronaldinho and Kaka, are missing the event in Venezuela.

United have been on the case of Nani for some time but appeared to have been thwarted in their attempts to sign him when it was suggested the 20-year-old was ready to extend his stay with Sporting Lisbon.

However, the proposed contract remained unsigned, allowing Ferguson to step in and snap up the Portugal international.

Ferguson will cross his fingers and hope his new arrivals enjoy the same kind of success as the last player he signed from the country, footballer of the year Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms in principle with FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon for the purchase of the registrations of Anderson and Nani," read a club statement.

"Personal terms have been agreed and a formal announcement will take place once the necessary administrative procedures, including medicals, have been completed."

With Hargreaves on board as well and the likelihood of a big-name striker being signed, United have signalled a statement of intent for the new campaign.

All the new arrivals will make their bows on the club's pre-season Far East tour.

However, the Old Trafford outfit are believed to be close to abandoning the final, Malaysian leg of the trip.

United had hoped a personal visit from Gill to Malaysia could help resolve the row which has erupted over their visit, which was part of the country's 50th anniversary celebrations but also clashes with the prestigious Asia Cup.

However, with the Asian Football Confederation holding the right of veto over the fixture, scheduled for July 27, and showing no sign of bending, the point is approaching when United finally admit defeat and find an alternative fixture to slot into a pre-season programme which already includes an Old Trafford encounter with Inter Milan on August 1.

One club who do appear to want United though are Aberdeen, whom it is rumoured have requested a meeting with the Red Devils as part of their 2008-09 pre-season programme to commemorate their 1983 European Cup Winners' Cup triumph.

As the victory over Real Madrid was achieved under Ferguson's management, United would appear to be the obvious choice.

Ferguson is still remembered with great affection at Pittodrie for the amazing job he did in breaking the Old Firm stranglehold in Scotland, which some maintain was a more notable achievement than bringing so much glory to Old Trafford.

PARKER SALE TO START TOON OVERHAUL
All change at Toon. The overhaul is set to begin this week with Scott Parker heading back to London, while Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and Lucas Neill could be heading to the north east.

Let's begin with Parker. There's disagreement about the size of the bid made by West Ham for his services, but the general consensus is that they've offered around £8m for the midfielder. It's also suggested that Tottenham could yet make a move for the Toon captain.

'New Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce wants to push the Parker deal through quickly to start an overhaul of his squad,' reports The Daily Mail. 'He is ready to step up his interest in troubled Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton to replace Parker.'

Meanwhile, according to The Sun, 'Mark Viduka has agreed to join Newcastle' and 'will be Sam Allardyce's first high-profile signing since he took the Toon job at the end of the season'.

As for Neill, The Mail says that he 'could move in the opposite direction to Parker. However, Newcastle face competition from Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United for the versatile Australia full-back, who joined West Ham in January'.

JUST HOW MUCH WILL CHELSKI ACTUALLY SPEND?
Roman Abramovich may have proved that he can actually speak by announcing that he will continue to bankroll Chelski but doubts persist that the Londoners will be spending with their ususal abandon this summer.

'Abramovich has told executives that he is willing personally to underwrite Shevchenko-sized transfer fees for the right player; however, the days of writing multimillion-pound cheques for squad players are believed to have passed,' reports The Guardian.

'A plan exists to produce more home-grown players, and Steve Sidwell has arrived from Reading without incurring a fee. Nor will a fee need to be paid if Chelsea move, as expected, for Bayern Munich's striker Claudio Pizarro. Alex, the Brazilian defender, had joined PSV Eindhoven under a loan arrangement with Chelsea and he is set to arrive for a token $1 (50p).'

AFTER ALL, THEY'RE NOT GOOD WITH BUSINESS DEALS
Hernan Crespo will once again be allowed to stay at Inter Milan by Chelski, who as far as we can tell have completely written off the money they forked out for the striker.

Khalid Boulahrouz, so comically rubbish that Jose Mourinho is willing to waste Chelski's best midfielder in defence to avoid playing him, will be flogged to Bayern Munich for £3.5m - just half what Chelski paid for him less than a year ago.

HENRY GETS TEDIOUS AGAIN
Here we go again. Thierry Henry has plunged his future at Arsenal into doubt by admitting he is "getting annoyed" with the club's recent inability to challenge for the title and announcing: "For now, I'm an Arsenal player. So there is nothing to add to it."

Henry isn't stupid and will know that plenty of people will add plenty of words to that vague statement.

"I'm getting annoyed that we're finishing at the end of the top four now," he said during a promotional tour in China. "Sometimes having a lot of youngsters in your squad - I'm not trying to look for any excuses - you cannot have the same spirit, the same results."

Ahh, Thierry and his wonderful ways of inspiring.

'Speculation continues the superstar striker could be on his way out this summer, with clubs like Inter Milan and Barcelona once more making him a top target,' notes The Sun, while the Daily Star goes even further.

They claim Barcelona will offer '£17million plus Samuel Eto'o' for Henry.

If they're mad enough to do that, Arsenal should snap their hand off.

HYYPIA TO BE FOURTH-CHOICE AT POOL
Somewhat surprisingly, The Guardian believes that 'Liverpool are considering offering Sami Hyypia a new two-year contract to stave off interest from Wigan Athletic'.

The Finn has slowed markedly in recent years, and Benitez is bound to sign another centre-half even if Hyppia stays at Anfield. The Spaniard 'hopes to buy the the Real Zaragoza centre-half Gabriel Milito' the newspaper adds.

IS LEE COOK ANY GOOD?
We'll be honest with you - the Gossip Column can't remember seeing Lee Cook play.

But QPR have told his Premiership suitors - led by Fulham, apparently - they will have to pay £5m to land the winger.

The reason we're confused is we're sure they said a few months ago he would cost £10m, and equally sure that a few days ago that he was worth £2m.

It's shooting up and down like that feature on a fruit machine that always gives you £1 even though you pressed the button when the lights were up to £8.

Malouda reveals Reds interest

Lyon star Florent Malouda has revealed Liverpool are hoping to sign him.

The French international is seeking to leave Lyon for a new challenge with a top European side.

Malouda claims Liverpool are leading the hunt to sign him, but that there is also interest from several Spanish sides in his signature.

Liverpool are thought to be in the market for a new left-sided winger with Boudewijn Zenden and Mark Gonzalez set to move on and Reds boss Rafa Benitez is believed to have made Malouda his top target.

Malouda says he would be interested in a possible move to Liverpool and he is hoping to have his future resolved soon.

"There are contacts with Liverpool but they haven't made an offer to Lyon yet," Malouda told Football365.

"They are a good club and play in the English league, which is very interesting.

"I have no preference, I can also move to Spain. It depends on the club's ambition and their desire to sign me.

"I don't know if my transfer price is €25 million (£17million), it could also be €35million (£27million).

"Anyway the money won't be in my pocket so I don't care.

"I agree with my chairman when he says that all Lyon transfers have to be signed before the 30th of June.

"I am leaving, it is just a question of time."

Olympique Lyon wing ace Florent Malouda has confirmed he's in talks with Liverpool.

It's understood Liverpool chiefs are eager to wrap up a £7 million deal for the France international by the weekend, but Malouda says he's remaining open-minded.

"There are talks with Liverpool, but nothing has appeared yet with Lyon," said Malouda. "Liverpool is a good club and to play in England could be interesting. But I do not have a preference, I can also go to play in Spain.

"It all depends on the ambition of the club and the will they have to sign me."
