split audio

i have just downloaded the hobit talking book
but it is too large a file to go on a cd ok as mp3 but i would like to be able to play it on hifi does anyone know how to split a file so as that i can do this,basicly i need to make two audio files out of one mp3 file

ps don`t know if this is right place for this post appologies if it`s wrong
