Running vlc on vista

Hi chaps
I've encountered an issue with VLC running on Vista x64
Got conection all set up and can manage to stream a movie
The problem is that if I then try to select another movie in my Video list
It will connect but then falsely playback the first movie again instead of the new one that I just selected
I then get an error on the PC end that Vista has stopped working
I need to reset VLC prefences to get it to run again
Then results will be the same as if the first movie I preview is stuck in memory
Tried in XP compatible mode and results are the same
Rebooting the PC / Dbox between films doesn't work either
Running latest version of VLC

Any Ideas

Try an older version..vlc-0.8.6i Im using it on vista without any probs m8.
