Apparently the latest version of this application allows conversion of HD .mkv files to MPEG4 (playable on the PS3). Red Kawa have created a new profile called MKV passthrough which demuxes the video and audio, changes the header of the video so that the PS3 thinks it can play it, does some other stuff, and remuxes the file. Because this is not a transcoding process the quality is apparently preserved and the process is quick.

Not tried it myself, but there are some favourable comments on the Red Kawa forum.

Tried it and works a charm, a bit tricky at first but worth a go for them hd movies.

so can you just do this conversion then burn the file as a data dvd and pop it into the ps3???

never used .mkv files before, whats the average file size?

you just select the file you want to convert and it converts it without losing any quality, most hd-dvd, blu-ray movies that are download are mkv, so converting them into mp4 lets the ps3 read them, just set up the ps3 media centre and it works great, streaming hd content as we speak, i recommend nero home. Thanks
