Hi,

Am starting to get curious on how much I can get out of the DB, so now looking at getting a HDD...

I've read the threads and found the following recommendations:

2.5" size
IDE (not SATA)
capacity unlimited?

- any limits on what DB will accept or will fit in DB?

Want the slowest rpm harddisk as is quieter, I've read.

- So that means 5400rpm rather than 7200rpm (are there any slower than 5400rpm)

- Speed (12ms, 12.5ms etc) - don't now if important?

- Cache size (have seen 2MB, 8MB etc) - don't know if important?

- Regarding manufacturer, are there any brands that should be avoided or recommended

e.g. Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba, Hitachi etc.

Any help appreciated.

Any manufacturer will do. The largest 2.5 IDE drive is 250gig, so if you can afford it, go for one.(about £85)

I don't think the speed difference makes much of a difference with noise.

cool thanks.

will have a look on fleabay etc to get a good deal!!

Try Ebuyer, Scan or Overclockers. They all have good prices.

I agree with that. Why risk buying a drive on ebay with no warrenty when you can buy from ebuyer or scan and know your money is safe.

Just about to place an order...

can somebody tell me what the difference between IDE / ATA100 /ATA133 is, and if this is something I need to worry about?

Cheers...
