just chipped a pu18 board on psx1 old style one,put it all back together now me laser wont spin, well it spins twice then thats it,,please could someone give me some info.and post us some links were i can buy psx1 parts from....thanks

From memory, it should spin twice when the lid closure button is pressed down to allow the laser to detect the disc. You may need to tune the laser in using the small pot on the side.

Other than that, it might be the PIC is no good.

Hope this helps.

i doupt it is the lazer, what chip is it that your using, is it a stelth, normal, onechip ???
Its most likely that its ether fitted wrong or the hex not blown onto the pic right.

its a modchip with 4 colour coded wires it says 12c508a on it ive took the chip off and its still doing the same without it

What happens when you start the machine up with an original, now that you have the chip removed?

I don't know much about the hardware connected to the laser, but in all the time I was doing playstations, 9/10 times it was laser problems.

If it gets to the CD player/memory card screen then most of it is ok I assume.

Where did you get the chip and was it pre-programmed?

yes like you said mate it just gets to the cd memory card bit n thats it ,it spins twice but really slow then just stops

This might not be of help if your laser is gone, but when it spins twice, really slow, does it pulse twice.
i.e. does it spin a bit, then start to slow and pulse again and then stop.

If it does then try and listen to the laser.

If it clicks then it seems like the laser can't focus.

Clean it with something soft and then get a small screw driver and turn the small POT on the side of the laser about (on the orange plastic wafer cable) about 90 degrees in either direction.

if nothing has changed then try another 90 degrees.

If still no change then go to http://www.computermarkets.co.uk/ and see if there is a show by you.

sorry I can't be of more help!

if the problem has only come about since trying to chip the console then the most likely cause is (if the chip is the right one and programmed and wired correctly) a dirty lens. use a lens cleaner (a cheap £2 one will do the same job as a £10.00 one.) or use a cotton bud with an alchohol based solution if this fails then you may have caused a fault on the mainboard. adjusting the pot on the ribbon will not make any difference in this case. try your laser unit in another console if possible before buying a new one. as i have found most of the time it is (if wired correctly), a dirty lens.

Hi whitty

Just a thought m8 (you may of already done this)

Have you checked all the solder Points? because it is very easy to let a tiny little bit of solder track across to another point making it look as one point.

I have found that in some places i'v had to use a magnifing glass to make sure i have not done this.

Hope this helps m8

I Still Have An Old Style Psx Which Has Never Ever Been Chipped, Instead What I Did Was Used A Gamers Movie Card Which Slots Into The Back Of The Pxs Known As The I/o Port And What I Have To Do Is Put A Spring In Between The Lid Button And The Swich And Leave The Lid Open, Put In A Pal Game Let It Boot For About 3-5 Secs Wait Till It Stops Remove It And Insert A Cdr-chipped Game And Works Like A Gem, Been Working For About 5 Yrs...........
