ps2 backup problem

backups and adding a hdd

I have a chipped pal ps2 with the messiah 2 chip, it can play backups no problem however i downloaded fire fro wrestling (jap) game and i can't get it to play, the disc loads (playstation 2) screen but then it goes blank.
help
also whats this i hear about a hdd for the ps2? this could solve a problem of wasting 4 dvds on this game

anyways how do i go about adding a hdd (i have the network adapter and a copy of HD loader) all i need now is a hard drive, so once i install that (tomorrow) any chance some kind soul could give me a step by step guide to setting it up to play backups and connecting it to the pc.

you can use a ide external case to connect hdd to pc. best to format it then put it in the ps2 and i think that formats in into the correct partision

then im not sure what app you use to put the iso on but for HDadvance its hdl_dumb. just select iso and install.
